Slot apps UK guide

Slot apps UK players can download fall into two very different groups: real-money casino apps from operators licensed by the Gambling Commission, and play-money ‘social casino’ apps where coins can never be cashed out. This guide explains how each works, compares our five partners’ apps from their store listings, and shows how to check you have the genuine one.

Key takeaways

  • Real-money slot apps must come from a Gambling Commission licensee; play-money apps sell coins that can’t be cashed out.
  • An app runs the same games, RTPs and UK rules as the casino’s website; it adds convenience, not better odds.
  • Check the developer name on the store listing matches the licensed company before you install.
  • Our partners’ apps need between iOS 15 and iOS 18 on iPhone and all carry an 18+ or PEGI 18 rating.
  • Use the app’s limit, time-out and reality-check settings, and remember GAMSTOP covers apps as well as websites.

Slot apps UK: real-money apps and play-money apps

Search the App Store for ‘slots’ and most of the results are not gambling apps in the legal sense. They are social casino games: you get a pile of virtual coins, you can buy more, and you can never turn them back into money. The real-money kind is the casino’s own app, published by the licensed company or its group, and they hold your real balance, deposits and withdrawals.

This guide is about the first group. If you only want to try a slot without staking, a licensed casino’s demo mode is the closer match to the real thing, because it runs the same game maths; see are free slot games the same as real ones. Our demo slots guide covers the age-check rule for demos. UK slot apps from our partner casinos compared

All five of our partner casinos list apps on both the App Store and Google Play in Great Britain. The table uses the store listings as checked on 20 October 2026; app sizes and system requirements change with updates, so treat them as a guide. Star ratings are left out on purpose, because they move constantly and say little about payouts.

The iOS version matters most if you have an older iPhone: the Coral and Ladbrokes casino apps ask for iOS 18, while PlayOJO and Casumo run on iOS 15. Google Play didn’t show a minimum Android version for any of the five, as Play now shows compatibility only on the device itself. Each casino has its own page with more detail: the Coral app, Ladbrokes app, PlayOJO app, Casumo app and 10bet app.

Casino-only slot apps vs combined sports and casino apps

Coral and Ladbrokes publish a dedicated casino app that is separate from their sportsbook apps, and PlayOJO is a casino-only brand. Casumo’s iOS app combines casino and sports betting, though its Android title is casino-focused, and 10bet’s app is one combined product listed in the App Store’s Sports category.

For a slot player the practical difference is clutter and marketing. A combined app opens with sport as well as games, and the bonuses you see may be for either product. Since 19 January 2026 a single promotion can’t mix gambling products, so a sports bet can’t be the condition for casino spins or the other way round. You still need to read which product an offer belongs to.

How to install a real-money slot app safely

  1. Go to the casino’s own website and follow its link to the App Store or Google Play, rather than searching the store and tapping the first result.
  2. On the listing, check the developer or seller name matches the casino’s group (see the table below) and that the age rating is 18+ or PEGI 18.
  3. Read the privacy section so you know what data the app links to you, including location.
  4. Install, then log in with your existing account or register and complete age and identity checks.
  5. Before depositing, open the account settings and set a deposit limit; you will be prompted to anyway before a first deposit.
  6. Turn on a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID on the phone so nobody else can open the app.

Never install a casino app from a link in a text message, a social media advert or a file sent by someone else. A licensed operator has no reason to ask you to sideload anything.

How to tell a genuine slot app from a copy

The quickest check is the name of the company that published the app. It should match, or belong to the same group as, the company named on the Gambling Commission’s public register (opens in a new tab). Our partners’ listings show these names:

Who publishes each partner app, and who holds the UK licence
CasinoApp published byUK licence holder (account)
CoralEntain (iOS); LC International Limited (Android)LC International Limited (54743)
LadbrokesEntain (iOS); Ladbrokes Mobile Development (Android)LC International Limited (54743)
PlayOJOSkill On Net LtdSkill On Net Limited (39326)
CasumoCasumo Services LtdRecro Limited (61549)
10bet10bet Limited (iOS); Blue Star Planet Ltd (Android)Blue Star Planet Limited (43173)

A group company publishing the app is normal; a stranger’s name is not. You can also open Coral’s App Store listing (opens in a new tab) or PlayOJO’s App Store listing (opens in a new tab) from this page to compare what a genuine listing looks like. Our page on whether Coral is legit shows how to read a register entry step by step.

What a slot app adds, and what it can’t change

An app is a different front door to the same casino. The slots inside are the same titles from the same studios, their results come from the same certified random number generators, and the RTP is whatever version the casino has chosen for all devices. See RNG certification for how that testing works.

Advantages

  • Faster log-in; Casumo’s iOS listing mentions Face ID and Touch ID
  • Shortcuts such as Casumo’s Quick Launch of the last four slots played
  • Store review and an age rating before the app appears
  • Some app-only free-to-play games, such as Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ prize games

Drawbacks

  • Uses phone storage, from about 25 MB to over 100 MB
  • Needs a fairly recent iOS version for some brands
  • Easier to open on impulse than a website
  • Privacy labels show several apps link usage data to you

None of those points touch the odds. If a site or advert suggests an app ‘pays better’, treat it as a red flag rather than a reason to download.

UK rules inside slot apps

Because the app belongs to a licensed operator, every Commission rule follows you in. The £5 and £2 stake limits apply per spin, and the slot game design rules mean no autoplay, no turbo spins, a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin and an on-screen net position. Studios must also publish clear game rules and the RTP in the help screen.

Marketing has its own rule. Since 1 May 2025 casinos must let you opt in separately for each product (betting, casino, bingo) and each channel (email, SMS and phone calls) when you register, with every box off by default; LCCP condition 5.1.12 (opens in a new tab) sets this out. Push notifications aren’t among the listed channels, so switch them off in your phone’s settings if you don’t want them.

Privacy labels, location and permissions

Apple’s privacy labels are written by the developer, but they still give a useful picture. Coral’s iOS label lists coarse location linked to you; Ladbrokes’ lists precise location not linked to you. PlayOJO’s iOS listing says the app may use your location even when it isn’t open, and Casumo’s and 10bet’s Android data-safety sections say the apps may share or collect location data.

None of our partners’ help pages that were checked states a location requirement for slots, so there is no confirmed rule that you must turn location on. If an app asks, you can usually deny it and see whether play continues; if it doesn’t, the casino’s help centre should explain why. PlayOJO’s welcome offer, for example, excludes Northern Ireland, because gambling law there is separate from Great Britain’s.

Free-to-play prize games inside casino apps

Some casino apps include games you play without staking. Coral’s app listing mentions free-to-play games with real-money prizes, and Ladbrokes’ mentions Instant Spins, a daily prize wheel and contests. These are promotions run by the operator, not slots with an RTP, and their terms set who can enter, how often and what the prizes are.

Treat them as a bonus feature of the app rather than a reason to keep opening it. Prizes paid as bonus money may carry wagering, which since 19 January 2026 can’t exceed 10 times the bonus. If you would like to know how tournament-style promotions such as Casumo’s Reel Races work, see the slot tournaments guide.

Social casino slot apps: why they are different

Play-money slot apps look like real slots and often use real studios’ themes, but the economics are reversed. You can’t win money, yet you can spend it on coin packs, sometimes with time-limited bundles. Because there is no money prize, these apps generally sit outside Gambling Commission licensing, which means none of the protections on this page apply: no stake limits, no GAMSTOP, no requirement to show RTP.

For a no-cost way to learn how a slot behaves, a licensed casino’s demo is the better choice, since it uses the real game maths after age verification. Our guide to free slot machines compares the options.

Safer gambling tools inside slot apps

Every licensed app has deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion in its account settings. PlayOJO’s listing names Safe Mate, Take A Break and deposit limits; 10bet’s names deposit limits, breaks and self-exclusion. Reality checks that pop up after a set time are explained in what a reality check is, and the slot safety tools guide lists the rest.

Deleting an app is not the same as excluding yourself. GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) blocks your account across every GB-licensed casino website and app for the period you choose, and blocking slot sites covers device-level blockers and bank gambling blocks. The National Gambling Helpline is free and open 24/7 on 0808 8020 133.

Where to find slot apps UK players can use: partner offers

The offers below are for new customers and can be claimed in each casino’s app or website. Coral: bet £10 on slots to get 100 free spins (10p each, on selected games, accept within 48 hours, valid 7 days). Ladbrokes: play £10 on slots to get 50 free spins a day for 10 days, up to 500 (10p each, claim before 23:59 each day). PlayOJO: 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza with a first deposit of £10 or more (10p each). None has wagering on spin winnings. 18+, terms apply, and some payment methods don’t qualify.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so you may not be able to open new accounts at both; check the terms. Game libraries in apps change, so search the lobby for a slot rather than assuming it is there. Compare all five partners on our casinos page or see mobile slot bonuses.

Frequently asked questions

Are slot apps legal in the UK?

In Great Britain, a real-money slot app is legal when the operator holds a Gambling Commission licence, and the app must follow the same rules as the casino’s website. That includes age verification, the £5 and £2 per-spin stake limits and the 2.5-second spin minimum. Play-money social casino apps are a separate category: you can’t win money, so they generally aren’t licensed as gambling. Check any real-money operator on the Commission’s public register; our page on the Gambling Commission and slots explains its role.

Do slot apps pay out more than casino websites?

No. An app and a website from the same casino connect to the same game servers, so the slots, their random number generators and their RTP settings are the same. What can differ is the RTP version one casino chooses compared with another, and that applies on every device it offers. To compare returns, open the game’s help screen in the app; our guide to finding a slot’s RTP shows where it sits.

Can I play slot apps on an older iPhone?

It depends on the app. Among our partners, PlayOJO’s and Casumo’s iOS apps need iOS 15.0 or later, 10bet’s needs iOS 16.0, and the Coral and Ladbrokes casino apps need iOS 18.0, based on App Store listings checked on 20 October 2026. If your phone can’t run the app, you can still play in the casino’s mobile website, which runs the same games. The mobile slots guide explains browser play.

How do I know a slot app is genuine?

Start from the casino’s own website and follow its store link, then check three things on the listing: the developer or seller belongs to the casino’s group, the age rating is 18+ or PEGI 18, and the app name matches what the casino advertises. Compare the company with the Gambling Commission’s public register. Never install an app from a text message link or a downloaded file. Each of our partner casino pages lists the licence holder and account number, and the Ladbrokes app page covers that brand’s listing.

Are free slot apps real gambling?

Most free slot apps in the app stores are social casino games, where you play with virtual coins that can’t be withdrawn. Because there is no money prize, they generally fall outside gambling licensing, but you can still spend real money on coin packs. Free-to-play prize games inside licensed casino apps are different: they are operator promotions with their own terms. Demo modes at licensed casinos use the real game maths. See free slot machines for a full comparison.

Do UK stake limits apply in slot apps?

Yes. The £5 per spin limit for players aged 25 and over has applied since 9 April 2025, and the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24 since 21 May 2025. Both are licence conditions on the operator, so they apply whether you play in an app, a mobile browser or on a computer. The app reads your age band from the details checked when you registered. See the £2 stake limit for 18 to 24 year olds for how the lower limit works.

Can I use Face ID to log in to a slot app?

Some apps support it. Casumo’s iOS listing states Face ID and Touch ID log-in, while the other partner listings that were checked don’t mention biometric log-in either way, so check inside the app’s settings. Whatever the app offers, it is worth locking the phone itself with a passcode or biometrics, so nobody else can open a gambling app on your device. The Casumo app page lists the other features in its store listing.

Will a slot app send me notifications?

It may ask permission when you first open it. Since 1 May 2025, licensed casinos must let you opt in separately to marketing for each product and each channel (email, SMS and phone calls), with all options off by default. Push notifications are controlled by your phone’s own settings, so you can switch them off for any casino app at any time. If marketing keeps arriving after you opted out, contact the casino; the slot complaints page explains how to escalate.

Does deleting a slot app stop me gambling?

Not on its own. Deleting the app removes the shortcut, but your account stays open and you can still log in through a browser or reinstall. If you want a proper break, use the time-out or self-exclusion settings in your account, and register with GAMSTOP, which covers every GB-licensed casino website and app. Bank gambling blocks and blocking software add further layers. Our page on how to block slot sites walks through the options.

Do slot apps track my location?

Some apps can use location, according to their store listings. Coral’s iOS privacy label lists coarse location, Ladbrokes’ lists precise location not linked to you, and PlayOJO’s listing says it may use location even when the app isn’t open. No partner help page that was checked states that location must be switched on to play slots. Review each app’s privacy section before installing and adjust location permission in your phone’s settings. The PlayOJO app page has the listing details.
