Published figures give 96.27% RTP, medium–high volatility and a 72,310x max win.

Millionaire Megaways slot: what you are playing
Millionaire Megaways (full name Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Megaways) is a branded slot from Big Time Gaming, the Sydney studio that created the Megaways mechanic. It borrows the TV show’s lighting, music cues and money-ladder idea, but underneath it is a straightforward Megaways game with cascades: the number of symbols on each reel changes every spin, wins are cleared away and replaced, and the free spins round carries a multiplier that keeps climbing.
It arrived in 2018, two years after Bonanza Megaways introduced the format, and helped establish the TV-show branch of the Megaways slot machines family. Our history of Megaways covers how the mechanic spread through licensing deals.

How the Millionaire Megaways slot machine counts its ways
On every spin, each of the six main reels shows between two and seven symbols, chosen at random along with the symbols themselves. The extra reel above the grid adds symbols to the middle reels. The number of ways is simply the symbol counts multiplied together, and wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, in any position. Seven symbols on all six reels gives 7⁶ = 117,649, the maximum.

More ways do not mean more value per spin. The game’s maths is balanced so the RTP is the same whatever the reel heights; a 117,649-ways spin simply spreads the same stake across more combinations, with lower pays per way. Our comparison of Megaways vs 243 ways explains the trade-off.
One spin of Millionaire Megaways, step by step
You set a total stake. There are no lines to choose; all ways are always active.
The RNG fixes the height of each reel, the symbols on it and the extra-reel symbols.
Winning combinations are paid and the winning symbols are removed.
New symbols drop into the gaps, which can form new wins; this repeats until no new win appears.
Scatter symbols are counted; enough of them start the free spins, otherwise the spin ends and your net position updates.
The chain of drops is a cascading reels feature, sometimes called reactions. It is all part of one paid spin, and under UK rules the whole sequence counts as a single game cycle of at least 2.5 seconds.
Millionaire Megaways free spins and the climbing multiplier
Free spins are started by scatter symbols, and more scatters during the round can add extra spins. The defining feature is the multiplier: in the free spins, it rises after every cascade and applies to subsequent wins, so a long chain of drops can build a large multiplier inside a single spin. This is a form of progressive multiplier, and it is where most of the game’s big outcomes come from.
An illustrative chain shows why. Suppose the multiplier starts at 1x and rises by one after each cascade (check the help screen for the real increments and whether it resets between spins). At £1 stake:

The gamble ladder
Before the free spins begin, the game offers a show-style gamble on the award: you can risk your spins on a ladder for a bigger number, or lose the feature if the gamble fails. Published descriptions call this the Hot Seat. Taking the gamble does not improve your long-run return; it only widens the range of outcomes. Our gamble ladder entry and the page on the hi-lo gamble explain how these work. The exact odds and steps are on the help screen.
Millionaire Megaways RTP and the cost of play
The Millionaire Megaways RTP is 96.27% in published figures, so the game keeps an average of £3.73 per £100 staked over a very long run. Studios often supply more than one setting, so read the help screen for the figure at your casino; see RTP variants.

Millionaire Megaways max win at UK stake limits
The Millionaire Megaways max win is 72,310x the stake, one of the larger caps among early Megaways games. UK stake limits set how high it can go in pounds:

Despite the show’s million-pound branding, the slot is not a jackpot game, and the maximum depends on your stake. Published figures don’t say how often the cap is reached; in practice almost no sessions come anywhere near it. See max win caps.
Checking Millionaire Megaways RTP and rules
Licensed casinos must give you each game’s rules and return, and the outcome of each spin must come from a properly tested random process under the Commission’s standard on generating random outcomes (opens in a new tab). To check the details in this game:
Open the menu (usually three lines or an “i”).
Find the stated return to player and note it.
Read the free spins page for the scatter counts, the multiplier increments and whether the multiplier resets.
Read the gamble rules, including what you lose if a gamble fails.
Confirm the maximum win statement.
How UK rules shape Millionaire Megaways
Players in Great Britain see a version without autoplay or turbo, with each spin (including all its cascades) lasting at least 2.5 seconds and with net position always on screen, following the slot game design rules in force since 31 October 2021. Feature buys are not part of slots supplied to Great Britain, so the free spins can only be reached by landing scatters. The game’s show-style sound effects also can’t celebrate a cascade sequence that returns no more than your stake.

Cascades and a rising free-spins multiplier give a clear, understandable feature.

Drawbacks
Medium–high volatility means long spells without the feature.
The quiz-show theme suggests million-pound prizes that are not a fixed jackpot.

Bonanza Megaways is the original, with the same 117,649-ways ceiling and a cascading free spins multiplier. Extra Chilli Megaways adds a gamble on the free spins award, much like the ladder here. White Rabbit Megaways expands the reels during the feature. For another TV-show game, see Deal or No Deal Megaways by Blueprint, built on the licensed mechanic, or the BTG-made Kingmaker.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Millionaire Megaways RTP?
Millionaire Megaways has a published RTP of 96.27%, so over millions of spins it is designed to return £96.27 of every £100 staked, keeping £3.73 on average. Casinos can run different settings of the same game, so check the stated return on the help screen before you play. Because the game is rated medium–high volatility, short sessions vary a great deal from that average. Our page on slot RTP explains how the figure is calculated.
What is the Millionaire Megaways max win?
The maximum win is 72,310x your stake. That works out at £14,462 at 20p, £72,310 at £1, £144,620 at £2, the highest stake allowed for players aged 18 to 24 in Great Britain, and £361,550 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. Despite the show’s name, there is no fixed million-pound prize. The cap is a ceiling, not a likely result. Our max win glossary entry explains the term.
How do Millionaire Megaways free spins work?
Scatter symbols start the free spins, and more scatters in the round can add spins. During the feature, wins cascade away and the multiplier increases after each cascade, so a long chain inside one spin builds a larger multiplier for later wins. Before the round starts you can choose to gamble the award on a ladder for more spins, at the risk of losing the feature. The exact counts and increments are on the help screen. See our progressive multipliers page.
Should I take the gamble on Millionaire Megaways?
The gamble doesn’t improve your long-run return. It swaps a known free spins award for a chance at more spins and a chance at none, so it only makes the outcome more volatile. If you would be disappointed to lose the feature you have just triggered, declining is the simpler choice. Whatever you do, decide in advance rather than in the moment. Our hi-lo gamble page explains why gamble features are priced to be neutral or worse.
How many ways does Millionaire Megaways have?
Up to 117,649. Each of the six main reels shows between two and seven symbols on every spin, and the extra reel adds symbols to the middle reels. Multiply the counts together and you get the number of ways; seven on every reel gives the maximum. The figure changes every spin, but the RTP stays the same whatever the count. Our guide to Megaways slot machines explains the mechanic in more detail.
Who made Millionaire Megaways and when?
Big Time Gaming made the game, releasing it in 2018. The studio was founded in 2011 in Sydney, created the Megaways mechanic and licenses it to other studios; it became part of Evolution after a deal announced in April 2021. Its other best-known games include Bonanza, Extra Chilli and White Rabbit. Our Big Time Gaming provider page has a fuller history and a table of its main titles.
Is there a Millionaire Megaways demo?
Many UK casinos offer free demo play of Millionaire Megaways after age verification, a requirement for free-to-play games since May 2019. Demo credits have no value, and the demo should run the same maths, so it is a good way to see cascades, the multiplier and the gamble ladder before staking money. A demo session says nothing about real-money results. Our demo slots vs real money slots comparison explains the differences.
Is Millionaire Megaways high volatility?
Published figures put it at medium–high. In practice that means many spins return little or nothing, cascades provide regular small wins, and most of the theoretical return is concentrated in the free spins with their rising multiplier. A budget can run out before the feature appears, which is a normal result. Choose a stake that gives you plenty of spins for the money you are willing to spend. Our high volatility slot machines page explains the trade-off.
Can you buy the free spins on Millionaire Megaways in the UK?
No. Slots supplied to UK-licensed casinos don’t include feature buys, so you can only reach the free spins by landing scatter symbols during normal play. That keeps every spin at your chosen stake and within the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over, or £2 for those aged 18 to 24. Our bonus buy in the UK page explains the position in more detail.
