The Money Train slot is the 2019 Relax Gaming original that started a five-game series: a Wild West train robbery on five reels and four rows with 40 fixed paylines, a 96.2% RTP and a 20,000x max win. Almost all the excitement sits in the Money Cart bonus, a respin round where special symbols collect and boost cash values.
5 x 4 grid, 40 fixed paylines, released by Relax Gaming in 2019.
RTP is 96.2%, so the long-run cost is £3.80 for every £100 staked.
The Money Cart bonus is a hold-and-respin round: three respins that reset whenever a new symbol lands.
20,000x max win: £40,000 at the £2 limit for 18–24s and £100,000 at the £5 limit for 25+.

Money Train slot: where the series began
Relax Gaming was founded in 2010 and began releasing in-house slots in 2018. Money Train arrived the following year and became the studio's best-known franchise, with sequels running to Money Train 5 in 2026. Relax holds a Gambling Commission licence (account 37462), so its games can be supplied to UK casinos directly.
The theme is a Wild West train heist: outlaws, a sheriff and bags of cash on a five-by-four grid. It belongs among the western slot machines, but what matters is the structure. The base game is a fairly plain 40-line slot, and its main job is to land enough bonus symbols to start the Money Cart round.
How the Money Train slot machine pays in the base game
Twenty symbols are visible on each spin, and 40 fixed lines run across them. Lines count from reel 1, and three matching symbols is the minimum for a payout. Higher-value pictures are four Wild West characters, and lower values are card suits. Wilds substitute for the regular symbols.
Set the total stake; all 40 lines are always active.
Press spin; the server's random number generator chooses each reel's stop.
The 5 x 4 result appears, and each of the 40 lines is checked for three or more matching symbols from the left.
Line wins are added together and paid.
Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 together start the Money Cart bonus.
Your balance and net position update before the next spin is allowed.
Our guide to paylines explains how 40 fixed lines compare with ways-to-win or cluster systems.
Money Train free spins: how the Money Cart bonus works
The Money Cart is not a free spins round in the usual sense. It is a hold and win style feature, sometimes called a respin bonus, played on a separate board.
The bonus symbols that triggered the round lock in place, each showing a cash value as a multiple of your stake.
You get three respins. Only new bonus or special symbols can land; everything else is blank.
Any new symbol that lands locks in place and resets the respin counter to three.
Special symbols act as they land, or at the end of the round for persistent types.
The round ends when three respins pass with nothing new, or when the board is full.
All locked values are added up and paid.
Special symbols in the Money Cart
Money Train bonus symbols (the help screen lists the full set)
Symbol
What it does
Cash symbol
Shows a value as a multiple of the stake; locks in place
Collector
Adds up all visible values and takes the total as its own
Payer
Adds a value to every other symbol on the board
Persistent Collector
Collects all values on every remaining respin, not just once
Persistent Payer
Adds a value to every symbol on every remaining respin
The persistent symbols are what make the round grow. A Persistent Payer that adds 2x to ten symbols on each of several respins can add far more than any single cash value, and a Collector that lands late gathers everything those Payers have built. The same idea of collecting values appears on our cash collect feature page.
A worked Money Cart example in pounds
The example below is illustrative and uses round numbers to show how the symbols interact at a £1 stake. It is not a typical or predicted result.

So £15 is paid for a round that cost nothing beyond the spin that triggered it. Many rounds look like this or smaller, and some pay less than the stake spent reaching them. The very large results need several persistent symbols landing early, which is rare.
Money Train RTP and cost per 100 spins
The published RTP is 96.2%. That makes the house edge 3.8%: over a very long run, every £100 staked returns about £96.20. A single session can be far from that figure in either direction.

We have not been able to confirm an official volatility rating, so we do not quote one. The structure gives a clue, though: a 40-line base game with a single respin bonus that carries most of the upside tends to produce long quiet runs. Plan your budget on that basis, and read our volatility explainer for how to judge it from a game's rules.
Relax Gaming does not publish how often the cap is reached. Treat it as the top of the range, not a realistic goal. Later games in the series have much higher caps, which the table in the next section shows.

Money Train 2 kept the format and raised the ceiling. Money Train 3 and Money Train 4 pushed caps much higher, the fourth switching to scatter pays. Our comparison of Money Train 2 vs Money Train 3 sets the middle two side by side. Relax's Money Cart 2 is a separate game whose main feature is also a respin bonus with collector and persistent symbols.
Is the Money Train slot worth playing today?
Advantages
Clear respin bonus that is easy to follow once seen
RTP of 96.2%, in line with the market
Persistent symbols give the bonus real variety
Lower cap than the sequels means a narrower range of outcomes
Drawbacks
Plain base game between bonuses
Most value sits in one feature
Sequels offer more features and higher caps
Western theme and card-suit low pays feel dated
It suits adults who like hold-and-win bonuses and want the simplest version of the series. Anyone who prefers more going on in the base game might look at the sequels or at Wanted Dead or a Wild, another western-themed game.
Outside Britain, Money Train is sold with a bonus buy. UK versions come without one, so the Money Cart can only start from bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5. Since 31 October 2021 UK slots have also had no autoplay or turbo, a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin, and no celebration of returns at or below the stake. Our guide to the spin speed rule has the detail, and demo play is available only after age verification.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Money Train RTP?
Money Train's published RTP is 96.2%. Over a very large number of spins, it returns about £96.20 for every £100 staked, so the house keeps £3.80. Individual sessions can be far above or below that figure. Check the game's help screen at your casino to confirm the version it runs. Our page on what a good RTP is puts 96.2% in context.
What is the Money Train max win?
The maximum win is 20,000 times your stake. That is £2,000 at 10p, £20,000 at £1, £40,000 at the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24 and £100,000 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. It is the top of the range and rarely reached. Later sequels have higher caps, up to 150,000x for Money Train 4. Our max win glossary entry explains caps.
How do you trigger the Money Cart bonus?
Land bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 on the same base-game spin. Those symbols carry into the Money Cart, where you get three respins that reset each time a new symbol lands. The trigger is random, so nothing you do changes its likelihood. Our page on how many spins until a bonus explains why bonuses have no schedule.
Does Money Train have free spins?
Not in the traditional form. Its bonus is the Money Cart, a respin round in which cash and special symbols lock in place and three respins reset whenever something new lands. Some casinos label it as free spins, but it works like a hold-and-win feature. Our guide to hold and win slot machines explains the format.
What do the Collector and Payer symbols do?
A Collector adds up the values of all visible symbols and takes that total as its own value. A Payer adds a value to every other symbol on the board. Persistent versions repeat their action on every remaining respin, which is how the biggest rounds grow. The help screen lists the full set of special symbols. Our cash collect page covers collectors in other games.
Is there a Money Train demo?
Yes, many UK casinos offer a demo after you have registered and passed age verification, which has been required for free-to-play games since May 2019. The demo uses the same maths and rules as the paid version. It is a sensible way to see how the Money Cart plays, not a way to predict results. See free slot machines in the UK for more.
Can I buy the Money Cart bonus in the UK?
No. Outside Britain the game includes a bonus buy, but slots at UK-licensed casinos are supplied without one, so the Money Cart starts only from bonus symbols in normal play. No dated Commission rule sets this out; it is simply how British versions are built, and it means every Money Cart round you see started from the reels. Background is on the UK bonus buy page.
How much does Money Train cost to play?
At 96.2% RTP, the long-run average cost is £3.80 for every £100 staked. That is about 76p for 100 spins at 20p and £3.80 for 100 spins at £1. Because much of the return sits in the Money Cart bonus, real sessions often lose more than that, or occasionally win, before averaging out. Our bankroll guide shows how to set a budget.
Which Money Train game is the best?
There is no single best one; it depends on what you prefer. The original has the simplest bonus and a 20,000x cap. Money Train 2 raised the cap to 50,000x with a 96.40% RTP, Money Train 3 reached 100,000x, and Money Train 4 moved to scatter pays with a 150,000x cap. Higher caps usually come with bigger swings. Compare them on our Money Train 2 vs 3 page.
Is Money Train fair?
At a UK-licensed casino, Money Train has to run on an independently tested RNG with a return that matches the published number, so outcomes are random and the rules disclosed. Relax Gaming is itself licensed by the Gambling Commission. Fair does not mean you will come out ahead, since the 3.8% edge works against you over time. The testing process is described in are slot machines rigged.
