The Munchies slot is a 2024 Nolimit City game that strips the reels back to a single window: each spin lands either a blank or a multiplier of your bet. You can play one, two or four reel sets, the top RTP is 96% and the max win is 40,000× the stake with four reel sets. Here is exactly how it works and what it costs.
Each reel set shows one symbol: a blank, a bet multiplier or a bonus heart.
Two or four reel sets cost more per spin, so check the total cost against the £5 or £2 stake limit.
A heart starts It’s Alive free spins; a golden heart moves you on to Devour Spins.
The 96% RTP is the top setting and lower versions exist, so read the help screen first.

What is the Munchies slot?
Munchies is a Nolimit City slot released in 2024. Instead of the usual grid of reels and paylines, it shows a single reel window built into an X-ray screen. Every spin stops on one symbol, and that symbol is either nothing, a multiplier that pays your bet times the number shown, or a bonus heart. You choose whether to play one reel set or to spread the spin across two or four.
That stripped-back design makes the game unusually easy to read and unusually blunt about its maths. There are no near-miss lines or small consolation wins hidden in a grid: a spin either pays a multiple of the bet or it doesn’t. It sits in our slots hub with the studio’s other high-volatility releases.
How the Munchies slot machine works on each spin
Choose your bet and how many reel sets to play (one, two or four).
Check the total cost per spin shown on screen; that figure is what the UK stake limits apply to.
Each reel set stops on a blank, a multiplier or a heart. With more than one reel set, a higher multiplier can copy across to the reels that follow it.
Any multiplier showing pays your bet multiplied by that value.
A heart starts the It’s Alive free spins.

A 1× multiplier simply hands back your bet. That return is not celebrated as a win, because UK game design rules since 31 October 2021 ban presenting a return equal to or below the stake as a win (losses disguised as wins rule). There is no wild symbol in the usual sense, because there are no lines for one to complete.
Playing 1, 2 or 4 reel sets on Munchies
The reel-set selector is the main decision in the game. Published game guides, such as casinos.com’s Munchies page (opens in a new tab) and SlotCatalog’s listing (opens in a new tab), describe two reel sets as costing four times the base bet and four reel sets sixteen times. With several reel sets, a multiplier that lands on one reel can be copied to the reels after it if it is higher than what they show, which is why the published max win rises with each step.

Worked example at the £2 limit
Suppose you are 22, so your stake limit is £2 a spin. On one reel set you could bet up to £2. On four reel sets, a 16× cost means the largest base bet that fits under £2 is 12.5p, and the game will offer the nearest stake step it supports. The headline 40,000× is larger, but it applies to a much smaller base bet. That is why comparing max wins across modes only makes sense once you have checked what each one costs. The game’s rules page shows both figures for the version you are playing.
Munchies free spins: the It’s Alive round
Landing a heart starts It’s Alive, the first bonus stage. Published guides list 10 free spins for the standard trigger. During the round, multipliers keep landing as in the base game, and a golden heart adds spins and moves the round towards Devour Spins. The round is played on the same number of reel sets you chose before it started.
Devour Spins: how the second stage works
Devour Spins can only be reached from inside It’s Alive. In this stage the highest multiplier on each reel set is stored above the play area and paid again on every remaining spin, on top of anything new that lands. That turns the round into a version of a progressive multiplier: an early high value keeps paying, while a weak start can leave little to collect.
The exact number of extra spins and the storage rules can differ between versions. Read the bonus section of the game rules before relying on any figure quoted elsewhere.
Munchies RTP and what it costs to play
The top RTP for Munchies is 96%, and Nolimit City supplies lower settings that a casino may choose instead. At 96% the long-run cost is 4% of everything staked. The figures below assume a single reel set; with two or four reel sets, multiply the stake by the cost factor first.
The Munchies max win is 40,000× the stake with four reel sets, according to published figures, with lower caps on one and two reel sets. The table applies the four-reel figure to a range of base bets. Remember that playing four reel sets costs more than the base bet, so the base bets in the table cost more per spin than they look.

As the worked example above shows, the £2 and £5 online limits apply to the total cost per spin, so the base bets available on four reel sets are small. The max win caps page covers how the cap ends a bonus early.
Munchies and the fruit machine number reel
Stripping a game down to one symbol per spin has a long history. Early single-line slot machines paid on one row, and many UK fruit machines use a separate number reel whose result decides how far you move on a feature board. Munchies borrows the idea of a single result that says how much you get, then adds online-only features such as multiplier copying and stored values that a pub machine’s fixed prize limits wouldn’t allow.
The big practical difference is scale. A Category C pub machine is limited to a £1 stake and £100 prize; an online slot such as Munchies is limited by stake rules but can offer multiples of the stake that no land-based machine in Britain could pay.
What the UK version of Munchies leaves out
Elsewhere, Munchies sells direct entry to It’s Alive and Devour Spins, and a mode that removes most base-game symbols for a very high price. Versions supplied to UK-licensed casinos don’t include bonus buys, so in Britain the bonus is reached only by landing hearts. Other UK rules also apply:
No autoplay and no turbo; each spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds.
Munchies is often available as free demo play, after age verification, at casinos that stock it. The single-reel design makes the demo especially useful for seeing how often blanks land. Before switching to real money:
Open the game rules from the menu.
Find the RTP and note whether it is the 96% top setting.
Check the cost and max win for each reel-set option.
Read how It’s Alive and Devour Spins are reached.
Set a deposit limit in your account if you haven’t already.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of the Munchies slot?
The top RTP of the Munchies slot is 96%, and Nolimit City also supplies lower settings that casinos can choose. At 96%, 100 spins at £1 on one reel set cost £4 on average over the very long run, though a single session can land far above or below that. Check the percentage in the game rules at your casino. Our page on RTP variants explains why one game can have several RTPs.
What is the Munchies max win?
The Munchies max win is 40,000× the stake when you play four reel sets, according to published figures; one and two reel sets have lower caps. Because four reel sets cost more per spin, the base bet you can use under the UK’s £5 or £2 limit is small, so the cash ceiling is lower than the multiple suggests. The game’s rules page shows the cap and cost for each mode. See max win caps.
How do you trigger free spins on Munchies?
You trigger Munchies free spins by landing a heart symbol, which starts the It’s Alive round. Inside that round, a golden heart adds spins and leads to Devour Spins, where the best multiplier on each reel set is stored and paid on every remaining spin. In the UK there is no option to buy the bonus. The trigger chance is the same on every spin; read what triggers a bonus round for why.
Should I play one, two or four reel sets on Munchies?
It depends on your budget, because more reel sets cost much more per spin without improving the RTP. Published guides put two reel sets at four times the base bet and four at sixteen times. More reel sets give more chances per spin and a higher published max win, but the money goes faster. Pick the mode whose total cost per spin you are comfortable with for your whole session. Our slot budget planner helps.
What are Devour Spins in Munchies?
Devour Spins are the second bonus stage in Munchies, reached only from the It’s Alive free spins. During Devour Spins the highest multiplier on each reel set is kept above the play area and paid again on every spin until the round ends. A strong early multiplier can therefore pay several times, while a weak one adds little. The rules screen gives the exact spin counts. Compare this with progressive multipliers in other games.
Is Munchies a high volatility slot?
Yes, Munchies is rated high volatility. Most spins land a blank, and the return comes from occasional larger multipliers and the bonus stages. That pattern can drain a balance quickly, especially on two or four reel sets. If you want longer sessions on a fixed amount, a lower-volatility game will usually feel steadier. Read what high volatility means and decide on a loss limit before you start.
Can I play Munchies for free?
You can usually try Munchies with free demo play, after age verification, at casinos that offer the game. Since May 2019 UK operators have had to confirm your age before letting you play any game, including demos. The demo uses play credits that can’t be withdrawn, but it shows how often blanks and multipliers land and how the reel-set options change the cost. See our demo slots guide for more.
Who makes Munchies?
Munchies is made by Nolimit City, a studio co-founded by Jonas Tegman with its registered office in St Julian’s, Malta. Evolution announced a deal to buy the studio in June 2022. Nolimit City is known for high-volatility games and mechanics such as xWays, xNudge and xBomb, though Munchies takes a much simpler single-reel approach. Our Nolimit City provider page lists its other games on this site.
Is Munchies like a fruit machine?
Partly. Like a fruit machine’s number reel, Munchies settles each spin with one symbol that tells you what you get. Unlike a pub machine, it has no holds or nudges, and its prizes are multiples of the stake rather than the fixed £100 maximum that applies to Category C machines. It is an online slot, so the land-based categories don’t apply. Our guide to the difference between slots and fruit machines explains more.
Can I buy the bonus on Munchies in the UK?
No. In some markets Munchies sells direct entry to It’s Alive and Devour Spins, but slots supplied to UK-licensed casinos don’t include bonus buys. British players reach the bonus only by landing hearts in normal play. That keeps the cost of each spin at the stake you choose, under the £5 or £2 limit. Read bonus buy in the UK for how studios prepare British versions.
