Nolimit City slots are extreme-volatility online slots from a Malta-registered studio owned by Evolution, built around branded mechanics such as xWays, xNudge and xSplit and headline maximum wins running into six figures times the stake. This page explains how those mechanics work, what the maths means for your budget and how UK rules shape the games.
Nolimit City is owned by Evolution (deal announced June 2022) and is known for xWays, xNudge, xSplit and xBomb.
Most of its slots are rated extreme or insane volatility: long dry spells are normal and the top prizes are very rare.
Several titles exist in lower-RTP versions, so check the help screen at the casino you use.
British editions drop autoplay and bonus buys, run each round for 2.5 seconds or more, and stop at £5 a spin (£2 under 25).

Who makes Nolimit City slots?
Behind the brand is an online slot provider whose co-founder is Jonas Tegman; the company is registered in St Julian’s, Malta, and its developers work from Sweden, Malta and India. It sells games to licensed casinos rather than running a casino itself, which is why you’ll find the same Nolimit City titles in many different lobbies. Our online slot providers hub explains how studios, aggregators and casinos fit together.
In June 2022 the live-casino group Evolution (opens in a new tab) announced a deal to buy the studio, valued at up to €340m: €200m paid upfront and up to €140m in earn-outs linked to later performance. Evolution also owns NetEnt, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming, so Nolimit City now sits inside one of the largest game-supply groups in the world while keeping its own brand and design style.
The studio’s reputation rests on a handful of things: dark, satirical themes (prisons, asylums, outlaws, horror), unusually high maximum wins, and a family of patented-style mechanics whose names all start with an x. Titles such as Mental, San Quentin xWays and Tombstone RIP made those features familiar, and newer releases mostly remix them.
How Nolimit City’s x-mechanics work
Every Nolimit City slot still runs on a certified random number generator that settles the result before the reels stop. The x-mechanics are presentation and maths layers on top: they change how many ways a spin can pay or how big a multiplier grows, not whether a spin is decided fairly. Here is what each one does in plain terms.
Nolimit City signature mechanics at a glance
Mechanic
What happens on the reels
Effect on the maths
xWays
A special symbol opens to show two to four copies of one paying symbol
Multiplies the number of ways to win on that spin
xNudge
A stacked wild nudges until it fills the reel; each nudge adds +1 to its multiplier
Turns an ordinary wild into a multiplied one
xSplit
A wild splits the symbols in its row, doubling them
Creates extra symbols and more ways on that spin
xBomb
An exploding wild destroys nearby symbols and new ones fall in
Adds cascades and can grow the grid
Enhancer Cells / Razor Split
Extra cells or saw-blade symbols that split or upgrade positions
Raises ways and multipliers in feature-heavy spins
Take xWays as a worked example. On a 5×3 grid with 243 ways, one reel holds three symbols. If an xWays symbol lands on the middle reel and reveals four matching symbols, that reel now holds six positions, so the ways rise from 3×3×3×3×3 = 243 to 3×3×6×3×3 = 486. Two xWays symbols on different reels can multiply the count again, which is how San Quentin’s base 243 ways can climb far higher.
xNudge works differently. A partial stack of wilds slides one step at a time until the whole reel is wild, and every step adds one to its multiplier. A wild that nudges three times ends up as a ×4 wild on that spin, and in free spins the multiplier often stays sticky, so it can keep climbing. The split mechanic is explained further on our split symbols page.
Best-known Nolimit City slots and their published figures
The table lists Nolimit City games for which we hold checked specifications. RTP figures are the default versions; a casino may run a lower one, as noted.
Nolimit City slots maths: RTP, volatility and hit rates
Nolimit City’s default RTPs cluster just above 96%, which is ordinary for online slots. What sets the studio apart is how that return is distributed. With extreme or insane volatility, a large share of the RTP is concentrated in rare bonus rounds and very large multipliers, so the base game returns relatively little most of the time.
In practice that means many sessions end with the balance falling steadily, and the published RTP is reached only across millions of spins played by everyone. Our guide to volatility and budgets works through how a small session bankroll behaves on games like these.

Those averages are long-run expectations, not a forecast for your session. On an extreme-volatility game, 100 spins can easily cost far more than the average, and occasionally much less. The last column shows why the RTP version matters: moving from 96.03% to 92.11% roughly doubles the expected cost of the same play. Our explainer on RTP variants covers why studios supply several versions.
Nolimit City max wins at UK stake limits
Nolimit City quotes maximum wins as a multiple of the stake, and a round ends when that cap is reached. The pound value therefore depends entirely on your stake, which in Britain is limited to £5 per spin for over-25s and £2 for 18–24s.

These are ceilings, not likely outcomes. The developer doesn’t publish how often the cap is reached, and it is far rarer than an ordinary bonus. Casinos may also set their own maximum payout in their terms. Our page on max win caps explains how the limit works.
How UK rules shape Nolimit City slots
A Nolimit City game running at a British casino behaves a little differently from the clips filmed elsewhere, because the Gambling Commission’s online slot design rules have shaped it since 31 October 2021. You press spin for every round yourself, the reels can’t be hurried below 2.5 seconds, nothing lets you slam them to a stop, and a payout that merely hands back your stake (or less) gets no fanfare. Your balance and net position stay on screen.
In some other markets Nolimit City games offer ways to pay a fixed price to go straight into a bonus round. Those options aren’t offered on slots at UK-licensed casinos; our page on bonus buy in the UK explains how games are supplied to Britain without them. Free demo play is available at some casinos, but only after age verification.
Because several titles ship with lower-RTP options, the figure that matters is the one in the version you are about to play. It takes under a minute to find.
Open the game at the casino and leave the stake at its lowest setting.
Tap the menu or information icon to open the game rules (the help screen).
Scroll to the end of the rules, where the theoretical return to player is usually printed.
Compare it with the default figure in our table: 96.03%, for example, against a 94% or 92% version.
If it is lower than you expected, look for the same game at another licensed casino or choose a different slot.
Are Nolimit City slots worth playing?
That depends on what you want from a session. These games suit adults who enjoy feature-heavy design, accept that most sessions lose, and keep stakes small relative to their budget. They are a poor fit if you want steady small wins to stretch a balance.
Advantages
Distinctive mechanics that are explained clearly in each game’s rules
Default RTPs at or just above 96% on most titles
Very high stake-multiple caps for those who accept the risk
Wide stake ranges that start at low amounts
Drawbacks
Extreme volatility means long losing runs are normal
Lower-RTP versions exist, so you must check each casino
Dark themes won’t appeal to everyone
Headline max wins are extremely rare and can mislead
“A big max win means a better chance of a big payout.” A higher cap usually means the return is spread even more thinly, so typical sessions are harsher.
“Bonuses are due after a long dry spell.” Every spin is independent; no counter builds up towards a bonus.
“xNudge wilds are more likely when the stake is higher.” The stake scales the payout, not the odds of the feature, unless the rules say otherwise.
“Demo mode pays better.” Licensed demos must use the same maths as the real game.
Nolimit City games are spread across many UK-licensed casinos, but lobbies change often, so search the casino’s game list for the title you want rather than assuming it is there. None of the offers below is tied to a Nolimit City game.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns Nolimit City?
Nolimit City is owned by Evolution, the live-casino and slots group, which announced the deal in June 2022. The agreement was valued at up to €340m, made up of €200m upfront and up to €140m in performance-linked earn-outs. The studio still trades under its own name, keeps its registered office in St Julian’s, Malta, and runs teams in Sweden, Malta and India. Evolution’s other slot brands include NetEnt, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming. Our slot provider glossary entry explains how studios supply casinos.
What is the RTP of Nolimit City slots?
Most Nolimit City slots have a default RTP between about 96.0% and 96.1%, according to published figures for titles such as Mental (96.08%) and San Quentin xWays (96.03%). Several games also exist in lower versions, for example San Quentin 2 at 94.03% and 92.11%, and the casino chooses which one to run. The only figure that matters is the one in the game rules where you play. Our RTP explainer covers what the percentage does and doesn’t tell you.
What is xWays in Nolimit City slots?
xWays is a Nolimit City symbol that reveals between two and four identical paying symbols, which increases the number of ways a spin can pay. If one reel of a 243-ways grid suddenly holds six positions instead of three, the ways double to 486, and several xWays symbols multiply together. It doesn’t change the fairness of the spin, which is fixed by the random number generator first. Our xWays feature page has a full worked grid.
What does xNudge mean?
xNudge is a stacked wild that nudges one position at a time until it covers its whole reel, gaining +1 to its multiplier with every nudge. A wild that needs three nudges finishes as a ×4 multiplier on that spin. In many free-spin rounds the multiplier stays on the reel and keeps growing, which is where much of the game’s top-end potential sits. The mechanic is covered step by step on our xNudge page, with links to related nudging wilds.
Which Nolimit City slot has the biggest max win?
Of the Nolimit City games in our checked data, Tombstone Slaughter has the highest listed maximum at 500,000× the stake, followed by Tombstone RIP at 300,000× and San Quentin 2 at 200,000×. At the UK’s £2 limit for 18–24s, 300,000× would be £600,000, but reaching the cap is extremely rare and the developer doesn’t publish how often it happens. Compare other studios on our biggest max win page.
Can I buy the bonus on Nolimit City slots in the UK?
No. The British editions of Nolimit City games have no buy-in button, so Fire Reels, xNudge free spins and every other bonus have to arrive through ordinary spins. In some other markets the same titles include buy options, which is why you may see them in videos filmed elsewhere. The British versions also have no autoplay and a minimum 2.5-second spin. Our page on bonus buy in the UK explains the position and why it isn’t described as a dated rule.
Are Nolimit City slots rigged?
No, Nolimit City slots offered by UK-licensed casinos must use tested random number generators and meet the Gambling Commission’s technical standards, which include publishing the RTP in the game rules. What can feel unfair is their extreme volatility: long runs without a bonus are normal and part of the design, not a sign of tampering. Losses are still the likely outcome over time because of the house edge. Read more in are slot machines rigged?
Can I play Nolimit City slots for free?
Yes, at many UK casinos, though the demo opens only once your account exists and your age has been checked; that has been the position since May 2019. Demo games must use the same maths as the real-money version, so they are a sensible way to see how a volatile game behaves before spending anything. Demo credit has no cash value. Our demo slots guide and the page on demo age verification cover the details.
Why are Nolimit City slots so volatile?
Nolimit City concentrates a large share of each game’s RTP in rare features and stacking multipliers, which leaves less to return through ordinary base-game wins. The result is a game that pays small amounts infrequently and occasionally pays very large amounts, rated extreme or insane on the studio’s own scale. The overall return is still about 96% in the long run, but individual sessions swing much more widely. Our high-volatility slots guide explains what that means for a budget.
What is the maximum stake on Nolimit City slots in the UK?
A Nolimit City spin in Britain can cost at most £5 once you turn 25, and £2 before that; the two caps started on 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025. Any extra stake taken within the same game cycle counts towards the limit. A Nolimit City game may list higher stakes in other markets, but UK casinos must cap them. See our stake limit rules page for the detail.
