The El Paso Gunfight slot is a 2021 Nolimit City western that lets you pick its volatility: a High reel set or an Extreme one. Its xNudge wilds add multipliers as they slide into place, and three tiers of gunfight free spins end in the Drunken Gunfight round with jumping and sticky wilds. RTP is 96.06% and the cap is 44,440× stake.
You choose between a High and an Extreme reel set; both start at 216 ways but arrange the rows differently.
xNudge wilds on reels 2–4 nudge to fill the reel and gain +1 multiplier per nudge.
Free spins come in three tiers, decided by badge symbols landing with the scatters.
Published RTP is 96.06%, with lower versions available to casinos.
The 44,440× cap is £88,880 at the £2 limit for 18–24s and £222,200 at £5.

El Paso Gunfight slot: the short version
El Paso Gunfight takes its story from a real 1881 shoot-out in Texas and turns it into a five-reel video slot. The characters are the gunmen of that fight, the marshal is the wild, and the free spins are named after escalating showdowns. What sets it apart from other western slot machines is not the theme, though: it is the option to choose the game's volatility before you spin.

High or Extreme: how the El Paso Gunfight reel sets work
Before spinning you pick one of two reel sets. Published descriptions show the High set with rows arranged 4-3-3-3-2 and the Extreme set mirrored as 2-3-3-3-4. Both multiply out to the same base figure: 4 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 2 = 216 ways. The difference is where the narrow reel sits.
Ways wins pay from the leftmost reel. On the High set the first reel is four symbols tall, so starting a win is relatively easy, and the two-symbol reel at the end makes five-of-a-kind harder. On the Extreme set the first reel holds only two symbols, so wins start less often, but the tall fifth reel is there when a win reaches it, and the maths places more value in rarer outcomes. That is a clear, physical example of how volatility is built into reel design rather than switched on by a setting.

How the El Paso Gunfight slot machine plays a round
Choose the reel set (High or Extreme) and your stake.
Press spin. The random number generator fixes every reel stop and any feature outcome at that moment.
Any xNudge wild on reels 2, 3 or 4 nudges until it covers the reel, building its multiplier.
Ways wins are counted from reel 1, with any multiplier wilds applied.
If all five character symbols appear together, a respin feature fires; if three scatters land, a free spin round starts.
Because the result is fixed before the reels move, the nudging animation shows you how the multiplier was reached rather than giving the wild a chance to stop elsewhere.
xNudge wilds and multipliers explained
The marshal wild is three symbols tall and can land on reels 2, 3 and 4. If it lands partly off the screen, it nudges into view one step at a time, and every step adds +1 to its multiplier. When more than one multiplier wild sits in the same win, their multipliers are added together, not multiplied. Our xNudge page covers the mechanic across other Nolimit City games.
Worked example
Say you stake 50p. A marshal wild on reel 2 nudges twice and reaches x3. Another on reel 4 nudges once and reaches x2. A win through both pays at x5, because 3 + 2 = 5. If the underlying ways win was worth 40p, the paid amount is £2. The help screen sets the limits on how high a single wild's multiplier can go.
A separate respin feature triggers when all five character symbols land on one spin. It awards a single respin in which the marshal wild expands across the three middle reels, which can turn ordinary symbols into a large multiplied win. It is one of the game's routes to bigger base-game results; like everything else here, it is rare. See respins for the general idea.
El Paso Gunfight free spins: three gunfight rounds
Three scatters start the free spins. Badge symbols landing with them decide which of three rounds you get, and badges landing during the first round can upgrade it.

4-3-3-3-4 grid, five jumping wilds, sticky xNudge wilds
Jumping wilds move to a new position each spin, which spreads substitution around the grid; they behave like the walking wilds found elsewhere but move to random positions rather than one reel at a time. In Drunken Gunfight the grid widens to 4-3-3-3-4, which is 432 ways, and xNudge wilds that land stay for the rest of the round as sticky wilds. Sticky multiplier wilds combined with extra ways are where the top of the payout range lives.
In Great Britain the gunfight rounds can't be bought. Slots supplied to UK-licensed casinos don't offer a bonus buy.
El Paso Gunfight RTP and the cost of play
The El Paso Gunfight RTP is published as 96.06%, so over a very long run the game keeps 3.94% of the amount staked. Lower settings exist and casinos pick which version to run. The figure for your version is in the game rules, usually at the bottom. A return 2 points lower would roughly add half again to the long-run cost.

The last column is the point many players miss. A £20 budget at £2 a spin gives only ten spins, which is nowhere near enough for a high-volatility game to show its average. If you want to see a feature, lower stakes give you more chances within the same budget. Our bankroll guide shows how to plan this.

UK rules on the El Paso Gunfight online slot
El Paso Gunfight arrived in 2021, the year the Gambling Commission's game design rules took effect on 31 October. UK versions therefore have no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin, no win celebrations for returns at or below the stake, and a visible net position. The Commission's summary of changes to its technical standards (opens in a new tab) sets these out. They change the speed and presentation of the game, not its RTP.
There is no pub or arcade version. British gaming machines are limited by category; the most a Category B1 casino machine can pay is £10,000, or £20,000 when linked, so the online game's multiplier structure couldn't run on one.

Myths about El Paso Gunfight
'The Extreme reel set pays more.' It changes how results are spread, not how much the game returns on average; check the help screen for each set's RTP.
'Switching reel sets mid-session resets your luck.' There is no luck to reset. Each spin is independent of the last.
'A wild that nudges a lot means a feature is coming.' Nudges are part of that spin's outcome only.
'Stopping on a busy saloon spin is a strategy.' Nothing about timing or quitting point changes the house edge. See how to win on slot machines.

Frequently asked questions
What is the El Paso Gunfight RTP?
The published RTP is 96.06% at its standard setting, which means a long-run average cost of £3.94 for every £100 staked. Nolimit City supplies lower settings too, and the casino chooses which one you get, so the figure at your site may be lower. The return for the version you are playing is printed in the game rules. It is also worth checking whether the High and Extreme reel sets list the same figure. The guide on how to find a slot's RTP shows the steps.
What is the El Paso Gunfight max win?
The El Paso Gunfight max win is 44,440 times your stake. At UK stakes that is £44,440 at £1 a spin, £88,880 at £2, which is the most a player aged 18–24 can stake, and £222,200 at £5, the limit for players aged 25 and over. The top end is reached through sticky multiplier wilds in the Drunken Gunfight round or the rare middle-reel respin, and the chance on any spin is very small. Casinos can set their own payout limits as well. Our max win glossary entry explains how caps work.
Should I choose the High or Extreme reel set?
Choose High if you want wins to start more often, and Extreme only if you accept fewer wins in exchange for more of the value sitting in rare results. Both reel sets start at 216 ways; High puts four symbols on reel 1 and two on reel 5, Extreme reverses that. Neither is a way to beat the house edge. Check the help screen for the RTP of each before deciding. Lower stakes suit the Extreme set, because they give you more spins from the same budget. Our guide to slot volatility and budgets explains the trade-off.
How do El Paso Gunfight free spins work?
Three scatters trigger the free spins, and badges decide the level. Three scatters alone give Gunfight Spins: eight spins in which the scatters become jumping wilds. Add one badge for the Deputy or Marshal Gunfight, nine spins with sticky transformed symbols. Add both badges for Drunken Gunfight, ten spins on a 4-3-3-3-4 grid with five jumping wilds and sticky xNudge wilds. Badges can also upgrade a round in progress. In the UK there is no paid entry. See how free spins work on slot machines for background.
What are xNudge wilds?
xNudge wilds are Nolimit City wilds that nudge into full view and gain a multiplier as they move. In El Paso Gunfight the marshal wild is three symbols tall and lands on reels 2, 3 and 4. Each nudge step adds +1 to its multiplier, and when two or more multiplier wilds take part in one win their values are added together. In the Drunken Gunfight round, xNudge wilds become sticky and stay for the remaining spins. The xNudge feature page explains the mechanic and other games that use it.
Is there an El Paso Gunfight demo?
Yes. Many UK casinos offer free demo play of El Paso Gunfight after you have verified your age, a rule that has applied since May 2019. The demo uses the same maths, reel sets and features as the paid game, so you can compare the High and Extreme sets and see each gunfight round without spending money. Demo results don't predict paid results, because every spin is random and independent. The demo slots guide explains how UK demo play works and where to find it.
What happened in the real El Paso gunfight?
The slot is loosely based on a gunfight in El Paso, Texas, in 1881 involving the town marshal, Dallas Stoudenmire, which became known for how quickly it was over. The game borrows the names and the setting for its characters and its marshal wild, but it is a fictional, stylised version. Nothing about the history affects how the game pays. If you like slots built around the Wild West, our page on western slot machines covers the theme and lists other titles.
Does El Paso Gunfight have autoplay in the UK?
No. Since 31 October 2021, online slots offered in Great Britain have no autoplay, no turbo or quick-spin, no slam-stop and a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin. Win celebrations are not allowed for returns equal to or below your stake, and the session's net position is always shown. El Paso Gunfight follows those rules in its UK version. They slow the pace and so lower the cost per hour, but leave the RTP unchanged. The autoplay ban page explains why the rule was introduced.
How much does El Paso Gunfight cost to play?
At the standard 96.06% RTP, El Paso Gunfight costs on average 3.94% of what you stake. Over 100 spins that is about 79p at 20p a spin, £3.94 at £1 and £7.88 at £2. Those are long-run averages; on a high-volatility game a short session can end far above or below them. At the 2.5-second minimum, an hour could hold about 1,440 spins, which is £1,440 staked at £1 and an average cost of about £56.74. See how long £100 lasts on slots for more.
