What slot has the biggest max win?

What slot has the biggest max win? Among the games in our verified facts, Nolimit City’s Tombstone RIP leads with a cap of 300,000x the stake, ahead of NetEnt’s Starburst XXXtreme at 200,000x. At the UK’s £2 stake limit for 18 to 24-year-olds that cap is £600,000; at the £5 limit for over-25s it is £1.5m. Reaching it is extremely rare.

Key takeaways

  • Tombstone RIP has the biggest fixed max win in our verified facts: 300,000x stake.
  • A max win is a ceiling, not a target: most sessions end nowhere near it.
  • Very high caps come with extreme volatility, so long losing runs are normal.
  • UK stake limits (£5 at 25+, £2 at 18–24) cap what any multiplier can be worth.
  • Progressive jackpots like Mega Moolah have no fixed multiplier and are counted separately.

Biggest max win slots in pounds at UK stake limits

A multiplier only becomes money once you apply your stake. UK online slots are capped at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds (from 21 May 2025), under the Gambling Commission’s stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). Here is what the top caps are worth at common stakes.

Some games may not allow every stake shown, and a casino’s own terms can include a maximum payout per spin or per day, so read the terms before playing. Our page on max win caps explains how caps are enforced in the game.

How a slot max win cap actually works

A max win is the most a single game round can pay, including any free spins or bonus that round triggers. When a round reaches the cap, many games stop the feature straight away and pay the capped amount, even if spins remained. The cap exists because the studio has to bound its maths: every possible outcome must sit inside a known maximum so the game can be tested and its RTP proven.

  1. The random number generator picks the outcome of your spin before the reels stop.
  2. If it triggers a feature, multipliers and extra symbols build the round total step by step.
  3. The game compares the running total with the cap, for example 300,000x your stake.
  4. If the total reaches the cap, the round ends and pays exactly the cap.
  5. The total win is added to your balance and shown against your net position for the session.

Our glossary entry for max win has the short definition, and multipliers explains how the big totals are built.

Why the biggest max win slots are so volatile

A slot with 96% RTP pays back £96 per £100 staked over the very long run. If a meaningful slice of that £96 is reserved for rare outcomes worth 100,000x or more, less is left for everyday wins. The result is what you see in Nolimit City’s ratings of “extreme” and “insane”: long runs of small or no wins, then very occasionally a large feature.

Compare Starburst, low volatility with a 500x cap, against Starburst XXXtreme, high volatility with 200,000x. Same studio and theme, completely different experience. For a budget of £20 at 20p (100 spins), the long-run average cost of each at roughly 96% RTP is about 80p, but on the XXXtreme version it is far more common to lose the whole £20 quickly. See our volatility explainer and high volatility slot machines.

Studios don’t publish the odds of hitting a slot’s max win, and we won’t guess. Assume it is far rarer than any typical player will ever see.

Progressive jackpots vs fixed max wins

Progressive jackpot slots work differently. Mega Moolah, Mega Fortune and Age of the Gods have no fixed multiplier at the top; the jackpot grows from a slice of every stake across linked casinos until someone wins it. That’s why Mega Moolah lists 88.12% RTP in our facts: part of the return is held in the jackpot pools. A progressive can pay more in pounds than a fixed cap at a small stake, but you can’t express it as a reliable “x stake”. Read fixed vs progressive jackpots and how jackpots are funded.

The biggest max win on UK slot machines in venues

Land-based machines have legal prize ceilings set by category, shown in the Gambling Commission’s gaming machine categories (opens in a new tab). The highest is Category B1 in casinos: £5 stake and a £10,000 prize, or £20,000 on a linked progressive. Category B2, B3 and B3A machines pay up to £500, B4 £400 and a Category C pub fruit machine £100.

B4Clubs, arcades, bingo, betting shops, casinos£2£400
CPubs, clubs, arcades, bingo£1£100

So the biggest possible single machine win in a British venue is far smaller than an online cap. Our page on the maximum prize on a pub fruit machine has more.

Max win myths

  • “Max wins are due after a long dry spell.” False. Every spin is independent; nothing builds up towards the cap.
  • “Betting the maximum makes the cap easier to hit.” On most slots the odds are the same at every stake; the stake only scales the payout. See should you bet max.
  • “A bigger cap means a better slot.” A bigger cap usually means more volatility, not more return.
  • “Max win videos show what’s typical.” Clips of capped rounds are chosen because they are rare.

Should you play the slot with the biggest max win?

Only if you are comfortable with the swings and treat the stake as the cost of entertainment. Losses are likely over time on every slot because of the house edge, and high-cap games can concentrate those losses into short sessions. Set a budget you’re happy to lose, use deposit limits and reality checks, and stop when you hit your limit. Our bankroll guide and slot volatility and budgets help you match a game to your money.

Frequently asked questions

Which slot has the highest max win?

In our verified slot facts, Nolimit City’s Tombstone RIP has the highest fixed cap at 300,000x the stake. Starburst XXXtreme follows at 200,000x, then San Quentin xWays and Money Train 4 at 150,000x each. Studios release new games and versions often, so check the help screen for the current figure before playing. Progressive jackpot slots don’t have a fixed multiplier and are compared separately. See the Tombstone RIP guide and our max win glossary entry.

How much is a 300,000x max win at UK stake limits?

At the £5 maximum stake for players aged 25 and over, 300,000x is £1,500,000. At the £2 limit for 18 to 24-year-olds it is £600,000, and at a 10p stake it is £30,000. Those figures assume the game accepts that stake and the casino’s terms don’t impose a lower payout limit. Hitting a cap like this is extremely rare. Read online slot stake limits and the £2 limit for 18 to 24s.

Has anyone ever hit a slot’s max win?

Studios and casinos sometimes publicise capped wins, and the maths means the cap is a real possible outcome, otherwise the game couldn’t be certified with it. But we don’t have verified, independent records of specific max-win hits, so we don’t quote them. What is certain is that the probability is very small and isn’t published. Our pages on what happens when a jackpot is won and whether a casino can refuse to pay cover the practical side.

What are the odds of hitting a slot’s max win?

Studios don’t publish them, and they vary from game to game. They are certainly tiny on high-cap games, often small enough that most players will never see the cap in a lifetime of play. A higher cap usually means rarer peak outcomes and more volatility overall. Treat any figure quoted without a studio source with suspicion. Our explainers on bonus trigger odds and standard deviation show how designers think about rare outcomes.

Does a bigger max win mean better odds?

No, usually the opposite for everyday play. RTP sets the long-run share of stakes returned; the cap shapes how that return is spread. A game that reserves part of its return for 100,000x-plus outcomes has less left for frequent small wins, so most sessions feel harsher. A low-cap game like Starburst (500x) pays smaller amounts more often. Compare RTP for value and volatility for feel. See what are the most volatile slots.

What is the biggest max win on a Megaways slot?

In our verified facts, Millionaire Megaways from Big Time Gaming has the largest Megaways cap at 72,310x the stake. Other large Megaways caps include Primal Megaways, Legacy of Ra Megaways and Ted Megaways at 50,000x each. Megaways reels change the number of symbols on every spin, so ways to win can climb above 100,000 on some games. Our Megaways slot machines page explains the mechanic and lists more games.

What is the biggest max win on a Pragmatic Play slot?

Among the Pragmatic Play games in our verified facts, Buffalo King has the highest cap at 93,750x the stake. Others with large caps include Gates of Olympus 2500 and Sweet Bonanza 1000 at 25,000x each, and Sweet Bonanza at 21,100x. Pragmatic’s fishing games are lower: Big Bass Bonanza lists 2,100x, while Big Bass Bonanza 1000 goes up to 20,000x. See our Pragmatic Play profile and the Buffalo King guide.

Can a UK casino limit how much I win from a max win?

A casino’s terms can include limits, for example a maximum win from a bonus. 10bet’s welcome bonus, for instance, caps bonus winnings at £1,000. Any limit must be clear and fair in the terms, and you’re entitled to withdraw winnings without unreasonable delay. If a dispute arises, complain to the casino first and then to its ADR provider after 8 weeks. Read can a casino refuse to pay a slot win and slot complaints and ADR.

Are max wins taxed in the UK?

No. Players don’t pay tax on gambling winnings in the UK, whatever the size, because the duty is paid by operators instead. Online casinos pay remote gaming duty, which rose (opens in a new tab) from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026, and venues pay Machine Games Duty on machine takings. Interest or income from money you later invest may be taxable in the usual way. See our slot winnings tax page and remote gaming duty and slots.
