The Pirots 2 slot is an ELK Studios game with no paylines at all: four coloured birds move around a 6×6 grid collecting amber symbols of their own colour, and every collection pays. The grid can expand to 8×8, the RTP is a fixed 94%, volatility is high and the max win is 10,000× stake.
No lines or ways: four birds collect matching amber symbols on a 6×6 grid using ELK’s CollectR mechanic.
A special symbol can expand the grid, up to 8×8, giving the birds more to collect.
The RTP is 94%, below the typical 96%, so £1 spins cost about £6 per 100 on average.
Max win is 10,000× stake: £20,000 at the £2 limit for 18–24s, £50,000 at £5.

How the Pirots 2 slot machine pays without paylines
Most slots pay when symbols line up. Pirots 2 doesn’t. Its grid is filled with coloured amber symbols plus four birds: blue, green, purple and red. ELK calls the system CollectR. Each bird looks for amber of its own colour, moves to it and collects it, and every piece collected pays a set amount from the paytable. When the birds can find nothing more to collect, the round ends.
That makes it a cousin of grid slot machines and of cascading reels, because collected positions are refilled from above, which can give the birds fresh targets in the same paid spin. It is quite different from cluster pays, where groups pay on their own without a collector.
A spin of Pirots 2, step by step
You set a stake and press spin; the RNG fills the 36 positions.
Each bird checks the grid for amber of its own colour.
Birds move to and collect matching amber; each collected piece pays its current value.
Empty positions refill with new symbols falling from above.
Birds collect again if new matching amber is in reach.
When no bird can collect, the wins are totalled and the game cycle ends.
A worked example of bird collections
To see how the pay builds, imagine a £1 spin. The red bird finds four red ambers, the blue bird two blue ambers, and the green and purple birds find nothing. Suppose the paytable values red amber at 20p and blue at 10p for this example (the real values are in the game’s paytable at your stake). The first wave pays 4 × 20p + 2 × 10p = £1.00. The gaps refill and the red bird finds one more piece, adding 20p. Total return: £1.20 on a £1 stake, a net gain of 20p.
Now change one thing: only the blue bird finds anything, two pieces at 10p. The return is 20p on a £1 spin, a loss of 80p. Under UK rules the game won’t celebrate that 20p as a win. That pattern, many small returns below the stake and the occasional large chain, is typical of a high volatility slot.

Pirots 2 features: wilds, grid expansion and the bonus
Three extra elements change what the birds can reach. Slot listings describe them like this; the help screen describes each in full.
Wild. Substitutes for any amber symbol at its current payout level, so it can be collected by whichever bird reaches it. See wild symbols.
Grid expansion. Collecting a particular special symbol sets off an event that enlarges the grid, up to 8×8. More rows and columns mean more amber for the birds and longer chains. This is a form of expanding reels.
Free Drops bonus. Scatter symbols trigger ELK’s version of free spins, which it calls Free Drops. The scatter count and number of drops are set out in the game rules.
Free Drops is one of ELK’s signature mechanics, alongside avalanches and walking wilds. In the UK, there is no option to buy the bonus; it only arrives through normal play.
Pirots 2 RTP: what a fixed 94% means
The Pirots 2 RTP is 94%, so the house edge is 6%. That is noticeably higher than the roughly 3.5% to 4% edge on many popular online slots. The Commission’s rules on game descriptions (opens in a new tab) require the RTP to be available in the game information, so you can always confirm it.

In other words, on average Pirots 2 costs about 50% more per spin than a 96% game at the same stake. That doesn’t make it a bad choice if you enjoy it, but it is worth knowing before you set a budget. The are high RTP slots better article explains when the difference matters.
Pirots 2 max win at UK stakes
The Pirots 2 max win is 10,000× stake. The table converts that at common stakes, including the two UK limits set out in the Commission’s stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab).

Reaching the cap needs a long collection chain on a fully expanded grid, usually in the bonus. It is an extreme outcome; the RTP already reflects how rarely it happens.
Pirots 2 vs Pirots and Pirots 3
The original Pirots, released in 2023, introduced the birds and the CollectR system with the same 94% RTP and 10,000× max win. Pirots 2 keeps the core idea with a new grid and features, and is rated high rather than medium-to-high volatility. Pirots 3 continues the series. Our Pirots vs Pirots 2 comparison goes through the differences in detail, and the slot sequels guide explains why follow-ups often change the maths.
UK rules that shape Pirots 2
Every paid spin, including its chain of collections, is one game cycle. Under the Commission’s product design standard (opens in a new tab), in force since 31 October 2021, that cycle must take at least 2.5 seconds, there is no autoplay or turbo, and returns at or below the stake can’t be celebrated. Your net position for the session stays on screen. Stake limits of £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24) apply per spin. See slot game design rules and the net position rule for details.
Is Pirots 2 worth playing? Who the slot suits
Advantages
Original mechanic unlike line, ways or cluster games
Grid expansion makes chains visible and easy to follow
10,000× ceiling
One published RTP figure (94%) to check against the help screen
Drawbacks
94% RTP means a higher average cost than many slots
High volatility: many spins return little

Bonus details vary by version, so reading the help screen is essential
It suits adults who like something new and who accept a higher cost per spin for the experience. If cost matters most, compare it with high RTP slot machines first.
Pirots 2 myths
“Birds learn where amber is.” The birds follow fixed rules; the RNG decides what is on the grid.
“A big grid means the next spin will pay.” The grid resets after each paid spin; nothing carries over.
Because the mechanic is unusual, the Pirots 2 demo is especially useful. UK-licensed casinos can offer it only after age verification, a requirement the Commission introduced in May 2019 (opens in a new tab). Use it to read the paytable, the expansion rules and the Free Drops section. A demo can’t show you how the game will treat your money in a short session. Our demo slots guide has more.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Pirots 2 RTP?
The Pirots 2 RTP is 94%, which means the game is designed to return about £94 for every £100 staked over an extremely long run, keeping 6% as the house edge. That is lower than the 96% or so seen on many popular slots, so the average cost per spin is higher: about £6 per 100 spins at £1, against £4 at 96%. Short sessions vary widely. The what is a good RTP for a slot page explains how to judge the figure.
What is the Pirots 2 max win?
The max win is 10,000 times your stake. That works out at £1,000 on a 10p spin, £10,000 on £1, £20,000 on £2 (the highest stake for players aged 18 to 24 in Great Britain) and £50,000 on £5 (the highest for over-25s). Reaching it needs a long run of collections on an expanded grid and is extremely rare. The cap applies to a single game round. Our max win glossary entry explains the term.
How do the birds work in Pirots 2?
There are four birds, coloured blue, green, purple and red. Each one collects amber symbols of its own colour, moving across the grid to reach them, and every piece collected pays from the paytable. Collected spaces refill from above, which can give the birds more to collect in the same spin. When no bird can collect, the spin ends. You can’t control the birds. The cash collect feature page explains how collection mechanics work in other slots.
How does the Pirots 2 grid expand?
The game starts on a 6×6 grid, and collecting a particular special symbol triggers an event that enlarges it, up to a maximum of 8×8. The larger grid has more positions, so the birds have more amber to collect and chains can run longer. At the end of the paid spin the grid resets to 6×6 for the next one. The exact rules are in the help screen. See expanding reels for similar mechanics in other games.
Does Pirots 2 have free spins?
Yes, in ELK’s format, called Free Drops. Scatter symbols trigger the bonus, in which drops are played without further stake. Reviews describe the scatter count and number of drops, but these can differ between versions, so check the game rules at your casino. You can’t buy the bonus at UK-licensed casinos; it only triggers in normal play. For a wider explanation of how bonus rounds are triggered, see how free spins work on slot machines.
Is Pirots 2 high volatility?
Yes, Pirots 2 is rated high volatility. Many spins collect little or nothing, and a large share of the return comes from long collection chains, especially on an expanded grid or in the bonus. Combined with the 94% RTP, that means budgets can fall quickly. Use a stake that gives you enough spins for the money you have set aside and decide in advance when you will stop. The slot volatility and budgets guide gives worked examples.
Can I play the Pirots 2 demo for free?
Yes, at many UK-licensed casinos, but only after your age has been verified, which has been required since May 2019. Once your account is set up, you can play with demo credits that have no cash value. Because CollectR is so different from line slots, the demo is a sensible way to learn how the birds, wilds and expansions work. It can’t predict real results. Our page on demo vs real money slots explains the differences.
What is the difference between Pirots and Pirots 2?
Both are ELK Studios games built on the CollectR bird mechanic with a 94% RTP and a 10,000× max win. The original, from 2023, is rated medium-to-high volatility, while Pirots 2 is rated high and starts on a 6×6 grid that can expand to 8×8. The sequel also changes the special symbols and bonus details. Our Pirots vs Pirots 2 comparison sets out the differences side by side.
Who makes Pirots 2?
Pirots 2 is made by ELK Studios, a slot developer founded in Stockholm in 2013. It is licensed by the Gambling Commission for Great Britain and has more than 120 slots. Its signature mechanics include avalanches, Free Drops and walking wilds, and its best-known series are Wild Toro and Pirots. The studio is known for unusual mechanics rather than standard line games. Our ELK Studios provider page covers the studio in more detail.
Can a Pirots 2 spin show wins but still lose money?
Yes. A spin can produce several small collections that add up to less than your stake, which is a net loss even though symbols were collected. Under UK design rules in force since October 2021, the game must not celebrate a return equal to or smaller than your stake, and your net position for the session must stay visible. Keep an eye on that figure rather than the activity on screen. Our page on the losses disguised as wins rule explains it.
