The Thunderstruck II slot is a five-reel, 243-ways Norse mythology game, now supplied by Games Global, whose bonus is a four-level Great Hall of Spins that opens up further each time you return to it. Published figures give a 96.65% RTP, medium volatility and an 8,000x max win. This page explains each level, the maths in pounds and what UK rules change.
243 ways to win: any matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left pay, whatever their row.
Three or more hammer scatters open the Great Hall of Spins; repeat visits open Loki, Odin and Thor in turn.
Progress through the levels changes which bonus you can pick, not how often the bonus arrives.
RTP 96.65%: 100 spins at £1 cost about £3.35 on long-run average; the 8,000x cap is £16,000 at £2 and £40,000 at £5.
UK play has no autoplay and a 2.5-second minimum per spin.

Thunderstruck II: a Norse slot machine with a long shelf life
Thunderstruck II was originally a Microgaming game. Its portfolio passed to Games Global in 2022, which now lists it alongside Mega Moolah and Immortal Romance among its best-known titles. The cast is drawn from Norse myth: Thor, Odin, Loki and Valkyrie as premium symbols, Asgard and Valhalla as mid-tier pictures, and card ranks for the low pays. It belongs on our list of Norse and Viking slots.
What keeps it in casino lobbies is the structure of its bonus. Instead of one free spins round, it offers four, and the better ones only open after you have reached the bonus a set number of times. That gives the game a sense of progress, which is worth understanding properly because it is easy to misread as a change in the odds.
How 243 ways to win work on Thunderstruck II
There are no fixed lines. A win needs the same symbol on reels one, two and three (and optionally four and five), in any row. With three rows on each of five reels, the number of possible left-to-right paths is 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 = 243, hence the name. Our 243 ways slots page explains the arithmetic in more depth.
When the same symbol appears twice on one reel, the win counts twice. Two Odins on reel one, one on reel two and one on reel three is two separate three-of-a-kind ways, both paid. Stakes are a single total, not a line bet, which keeps the costs easy to read.

The Thunderstruck II wild and the Wildstorm feature
The game logo is the wild symbol. It appears on reels two to five, substitutes for everything except the hammer scatter, and doubles any win it completes in the base game.
Wildstorm is a random base-game event. On any spin, the sky can darken and up to five reels turn fully wild. Several fully wild reels on one spin can produce one of the largest base-game results, and it is part of what lets the game reach its 8,000x cap without going through the bonus. Like any random feature, it cannot be predicted or encouraged, and its value is already included in the 96.65% figure.
Thunderstruck II free spins: the Great Hall of Spins
Three or more Thor’s hammer scatters anywhere start the bonus, called the Great Hall of Spins. The game keeps count of how many times you have entered it, and each milestone opens a new room. You then pick any room you have opened.

How each room plays
Valkyrie is the steady option: a flat 5x multiplier on every win for 10 spins.
Loki uses Wild Magic to scatter extra wilds across the reels; results vary more.
Odin’s ravens attach multipliers to wins that include them, so a single spin can jump sharply.
Thor uses cascading reels: each consecutive win in a sequence raises the multiplier, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, then 5x, and the round can retrigger.
Progress is saved, so returning players see the rooms they have already reached; how this is stored can depend on the casino platform. The count only affects which rooms you can choose. It does not make the bonus trigger more often, and a later room is not guaranteed to pay more than Valkyrie on any given visit.
Does Great Hall progress improve your odds?
No. Every room is designed to return a share of the stake over the long run, and the RTP is quoted for the game as a whole. The later rooms are more varied rather than more generous: they spread their value across a wider range of outcomes. Choosing Thor over Valkyrie swaps a steadier average for a wider spread, which suits some people and not others.
The published Thunderstruck II RTP is 96.65%, a house edge of 3.35%. That is a long-run average and some operators may run a different setting, so confirm it in the game rules before you play.
Volatility is medium. The base game pays fairly often thanks to 243 ways, and the bonus comes in four flavours with different risk profiles. In practice, medium volatility means fewer extreme droughts than the high-volatility games on this site, but losing sessions remain common and expected.

Four-room Great Hall of Spins
Thunderstruck II demo and finding the RTP
You can try a Thunderstruck II demo as free demo play, after age verification, at UK-licensed casinos. A demo is useful for seeing the Great Hall in action before staking money, but demo progress through the rooms may not carry over to the real-money game.
Load the game and press the menu or “?” icon.
Scroll to the paytable to see symbol values for three, four and five of a kind.
Open the Great Hall section to see the number of entries each room needs.
Find the theoretical RTP statement near the end of the rules.
Check the stake panel: UK casinos apply £2 or £5 per spin limits by age.
UK rules that affect Thunderstruck II
Since 31 October 2021, online slots in Great Britain cannot offer autoplay or turbo modes, must take at least 2.5 seconds per spin and must show your net position. The Gambling Commission’s responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab) sets this out in full. For Thunderstruck II, that mostly means the Rolling Reels in Thor’s room are presented at a measured pace and every base-game spin is started by hand.
Four bonus rooms let you choose a steadier or swingier round.
243 ways mean frequent small base-game wins.
Drawbacks
The best-known rooms take many bonus entries to reach.
Room progress can encourage longer play than planned; set a time limit.
Older presentation than many newer games.
It suits adults who like a structured bonus and moderate swings. If the urge to reach the next room starts to drive your play, that is a sign to stop; the progress meter has no cash value. Progress meters are one of the design choices discussed in why slot machines are absorbing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Thunderstruck II RTP?
The published Thunderstruck II RTP is 96.65%, meaning a house edge of 3.35% over the long run. On average, £100 staked returns £96.65, but individual sessions vary widely and most will not match the average. Some casinos may offer a different setting, so check the RTP line in the game’s rules before playing. Our RTP explainer shows how the figure is calculated over millions of spins and why short sessions differ.
What is the Thunderstruck II max win?
The max win is 8,000 times your total stake. That works out at £800 on a 10p spin, £16,000 at the £2 stake limit for 18–24s and £40,000 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. It is a ceiling reached only through rare combinations, most often fully wild reels or a strong multiplier sequence, and no published source gives odds for it. Caps on other games are listed in what slot has the biggest max win.
How do you open Thor in the Great Hall of Spins?
Thor’s room opens on your 15th entry to the Great Hall of Spins. Valkyrie is available from the first entry, Loki from the fifth and Odin from the tenth. Each entry needs three or more hammer scatters in one spin. Progress is saved, so returning players keep the rooms they have reached, but the count changes only which rooms you can choose; it does not make the bonus come round more often. Our page on free spins retriggers covers related mechanics.
How many free spins does Thunderstruck II give?
It depends on the room you pick. Valkyrie gives 10 free spins with a 5x multiplier, Loki 15 with Wild Magic, Odin 20 with Wild Ravens multipliers and Thor 25 with Rolling Reels and multipliers rising to 5x. More spins does not mean more value: each room is balanced so that its average return fits the game’s overall RTP. The help screen lists the exact rules. Our free spins feature page explains how bonus rounds are priced into a slot.
What is the Wildstorm feature?
Wildstorm is a random base-game feature in Thunderstruck II that can turn between one and five reels completely wild on a single spin. It can trigger on any spin, cannot be predicted, and its value is already built into the 96.65% RTP. When several reels go wild together, the 243-ways structure means many combinations pay at once, which is why it is one of the routes to the game’s top results. Our wild reels page compares it with similar features.
Is Thunderstruck II high volatility?
No, Thunderstruck II is rated medium volatility. The 243 ways produce regular small wins and Valkyrie’s 5x room is fairly steady, while Odin and Thor add wider swings. Over a session that usually means fewer long dry spells than a high-volatility game, though losing sessions are still normal and the house edge applies. Our volatility guide explains how to match volatility to a budget.
Can I play Thunderstruck II for free?
You can play free demo versions at UK-licensed casinos after age verification, which has been required since May 2019. Demo results must reflect the real game, so it is a fair way to see how each Great Hall room behaves. Bear in mind demo progress might not carry over to your real-money account. Our demo slots guide explains the rules and what a demo cannot show you.
Does Thunderstruck II have autoplay in the UK?
No. Autoplay has been banned on online slots in Great Britain since 31 October 2021, along with turbo and slam-stop features. Every spin of Thunderstruck II must be started manually and last at least 2.5 seconds. Overseas versions may differ, but UK-licensed casinos must follow the rules. The aim is to slow play and keep you aware of what you are spending. See our autoplay ban page for the background and exact requirements.
Which Great Hall room is best?
None is best in terms of value: each room is designed around the same overall RTP. The difference is the shape of the results. Valkyrie’s flat 5x gives a steadier outcome, while Odin and Thor have more rounds that pay little and occasional rounds that pay a lot. Pick the room whose spread suits your budget and enjoyment. Our page on high vs low volatility slots explains why spread matters more than the headline number of spins.
