Games Global slots

Games Global slots are the online games that sit under the Isle of Man company which took over Microgaming's games portfolio and distribution business in 2022, including Mega Moolah, Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II. This page explains who makes them, how their jackpots are funded, what the published RTPs mean in pounds, and how the UK versions differ.

Key takeaways

  • Games Global was established in 2022 in Douglas, Isle of Man, after acquiring Microgaming's games portfolio and distribution business.
  • Its catalogue lists 1,300+ titles from 40+ in-house and partner studios, so one 'Games Global slot' can come from many different design teams.
  • Jackpot games such as Mega Moolah carry lower base RTPs because part of every stake feeds the prize pools.
  • UK versions follow the 2.5-second spin rule, have no autoplay and offer no bonus buy; maximum stakes are £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24).

What Games Global slots are and who makes them

A Games Global slot is any online slot machine published or distributed under the Games Global name. The company was established in 2022 and is based in Douglas on the Isle of Man. Rather than starting from nothing, it took on Microgaming's games portfolio and its distribution business, which is why decades-old favourites such as Thunderstruck and Mega Moolah now carry the Games Global label on casino lobbies and in game help screens.

It helps to think of Games Global as two things at once. It is a content owner, holding the rights to a large back catalogue, and it is a distributor, supplying games from many smaller studios to online casinos through one connection. Our guide to what a slot provider is explains the difference between a studio that designs the maths and a company that delivers the finished game to operators; Games Global does both, which places it somewhere between a studio and an aggregator.

For a player in the UK, the practical result is that the Games Global name tells you less about how a game plays than a single-studio brand would. A low-volatility spy slot and a high-volatility 4,096-ways cash-collect game can both sit under the same logo. The sections below separate the catalogue into its main families so you can judge each game on its own figures. Our providers hub lists the other online studios we cover.

From Microgaming to Games Global: what changed in 2022

Most UK players met these games under the Microgaming name. Our checked data records that Games Global acquired Microgaming's games portfolio and distribution business in 2022. Older help screens and reference sites still say 'Microgaming' for titles such as Avalon and Break da Bank Again, while newer listings say 'Games Global (originally Microgaming)'. They are the same games; only the company holding them changed.

What did not change is the maths. A slot's return to player is fixed by its game rules and paytable, and the 96.01% listed for Avalon or the 95.43% listed for Break da Bank Again is a property of the game model, not of the company name on the splash screen. If a casino offers a different RTP setting, that is an operator choice from versions the supplier makes available, which our page on RTP variants explains.

We have not been able to verify a founding date for Microgaming itself or a date for its first online slot from an official source, so this page doesn't give one. Our online slot history page covers only the dated milestones we could confirm.

The studio network behind Games Global online slots

Games Global's published portfolio is 1,300+ titles from 40+ in-house and partner studios. Help screens usually credit the individual studio, and our checked game data names several of them. Knowing the studio is useful because each one tends to repeat its own design habits, from line counts to bonus structure.

Two patterns stand out. The Microgaming-era classics are mostly 5x3 games built on fixed paylines or 243 ways, the format explained in our guide to 243-ways slots. The newer studios have moved towards wider grids and collect-style bonuses: Gold Blitz uses 4,096 ways on a 6x4 grid, and its follow-up adds a cash-collect option.

Best-known Games Global slots and their published figures

The table below lists Games Global slots we have checked figures for. Where a cell says 'not listed', no reliable figure was available, and you should read the game's own help screen rather than trust a number from memory.

Immortal Romance has the highest listed RTP in the group and a top payout of 12,150 times the stake. Its 2024 sequel, Immortal Romance II, is credited to Stormcraft Studios; the game specification published for its launch (opens in a new tab) describes four character free-spin features plus a Wild Desire feature. The two Thunder games make a neat before-and-after: the 2004 original pays on 9 lines, while Thunderstruck II switches to 243 ways. Our Thunderstruck vs Thunderstruck II comparison sets them side by side.

How Games Global jackpot slots fund Mega Moolah and WowPot prizes

Jackpots are the part of the catalogue most closely tied to the Games Global name. Mega Moolah, released in November 2006, uses a four-tier progressive jackpot wheel, and the same wheel appears in Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels, which plays four 5x3 reel sets at once. The newer WowPot range, such as The Finer Reels of Life WowPot, uses its own progressive jackpot wheel.

The money for a progressive prize has to come from somewhere, and it comes from stakes. A small slice of every bet is set aside as a jackpot contribution, which is why the everyday game returns less. Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels shows this clearly: its published RTP is 90.3%, and 5.3 percentage points of that is the jackpot contribution, leaving about 85% for the reels and the normal bonus.

Worked example: where £20 goes on a jackpot slot

Take 100 spins at 20p on Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels, so £20 staked. Across a very large number of players, about £1.06 of that (5.3%) feeds the jackpot pools and about £17 (85%) comes back as ordinary wins. The remaining £1.94 or so is the house's long-run margin. In any single session, most players never touch the jackpot share at all, so the return they actually experience tends to sit closer to the base figure. Our page on how jackpots are funded goes through seeding and contributions in more detail.

For the original Mega Moolah, the 88.12% figure in our table covers the base game and excludes the jackpot contribution; the total including jackpots is higher. If you compare it with a non-jackpot slot such as Thunderstruck II, you are effectively choosing between a higher everyday return and a small chance at a pooled prize. Our Mega Moolah vs Mega Fortune comparison looks at that trade-off between two jackpot games.

Games Global slot RTP and cost per 100 spins in pounds

RTP is a long-run average across millions of spins, so the clearest way to read it is as an average cost. The formula is simple: total staked × (100% − RTP). At 20p a spin, 100 spins is £20 staked. The table applies that to the Games Global slots we have figures for. Any single session can land far above or below these averages; the RTP explainer shows why.

Average cost of 100 spins at 20p (£20 staked)
SlotRTP usedAverage returnedAverage cost
Immortal Romance96.86%£19.37£0.63
Thunderstruck II96.65%£19.33£0.67
Agent Jane Blonde Returns96.6%£19.32£0.68
Book of Oz96.31%£19.26£0.74
Avalon96.01%£19.20£0.80
Break da Bank Again95.43%£19.09£0.91
The Finer Reels of Life WowPot92.01%£18.40£1.60
Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels90.3%£18.06£1.94
Mega Moolah (base game only)88.12%£17.62£2.38

Two habits show up in these numbers. The non-jackpot games cluster between roughly 95.4% and 96.9%, which is typical of mainstream online slots. Volatility, on the other hand, varies widely: Agent Jane Blonde Returns is listed as low, Book of Oz and Gold Blitz as high. Low-volatility games pay small amounts more often, while high-volatility ones go longer between wins and pay more when they land; the volatility guide explains the difference. Two slots with the same RTP can therefore feel completely different over a £20 session.

Max win on Games Global slots at UK stake limits

A max win is a cap written into the game rules, expressed as a multiple of the stake. It is the most a single spin or feature can pay, not a likely outcome. Online slots in Great Britain are limited to £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 a spin for players aged 18 to 24 (from 21 May 2025), so those stakes set the practical ceiling. The figures below assume the game accepts each stake shown; check the bet range in the game.

Max win in pounds at common UK stakes
Slot (max win)10p£1£2 (18–24 limit)£5 (25+ limit)
Immortal Romance (12,150x)£1,215£12,150£24,300£60,750

Ancient Fortunes: Zeus (1,399x)£139.90£1,399£2,798£6,995

Progressive jackpots don't fit this table because they are a pool in pounds rather than a multiple of the stake. We don't quote jackpot sizes, which change constantly; the current amount is shown in the game. The rules on stake caps are covered in full on our online slot stake limits page.

Signature mechanics in Games Global slots

Because the catalogue spans so many studios, there is no single Games Global mechanic. Instead, a handful of formats recur.

  • 243 ways to win. Immortal Romance, Thunderstruck II and The Finer Reels of Life WowPot all pay matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right in any position, rather than along drawn lines.
  • Fixed paylines on 5x3 reels. Older and simpler games such as Thunderstruck (9 lines) and Lucky Leprechaun (20 lines) keep the traditional line structure.
  • Progressive jackpot wheels. Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels and the WowPot games send the player to a wheel that picks a jackpot tier.
  • Choice-based bonuses. Gold Blitz Extreme lets the player choose between free spins with wild multipliers and the Gold Blitz cash-collect feature; Immortal Romance II offers four character free-spin modes.
  • Lines that pay both ways. Ancient Fortunes: Zeus pays its 10 lines from left to right and right to left.

None of these changes the long-run return on its own. A choice of bonus, for example, normally offers options with different volatility rather than one 'better' choice; the game's maths is balanced so each option returns roughly the same over time, which the help screen usually confirms.

How UK rules shape Games Global online slots

Every Games Global slot offered by a UK-licensed casino has to meet the Gambling Commission's game design rules, in force since 31 October 2021. They are written into the remote technical standard on responsible product design (opens in a new tab) and summarised on our slot game design rules page.

  • No autoplay: every spin needs a fresh press.
  • At least 2.5 seconds per game cycle, with no turbo or slam-stop.
  • No celebratory sounds or graphics for a return equal to or less than the stake.
  • Your balance and net position for the session shown at all times.
  • No bonus buy option in the versions supplied to Great Britain.

Game information is also regulated. The remote technical standard on game rules and the likelihood of winning (opens in a new tab) requires operators to make the rules and return information available to players, which is why the RTP appears in each game's help or information screen. Free-to-play demo versions can only be opened after age verification, a rule in place since May 2019.

Is Games Global licensed in the UK?

Our checked data lists Games Global as regulated by the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority. Suppliers of online gambling software to British customers need a Commission licence, and you can confirm any company's status yourself. The licence of the casino you play at matters just as much, because it is the operator who is responsible for your account, payments and safer gambling tools.

  1. Open the Gambling Commission's public register of businesses (opens in a new tab).
  2. Search for the company name shown in the game's help screen or the casino's footer.
  3. Check that the licence status is active and note the account number.
  4. Repeat the search for the casino's licence holder named in its terms.
  5. If either search fails, don't deposit; use a casino you can verify.

How to find Games Global slots and check the version you're playing

Casino lobbies usually let you filter by provider, though the label varies: some say Games Global, others still use Microgaming or the studio's own name. Once you have opened a game, a quick check of its information screen tells you everything that matters.

  1. Search the lobby for the game name rather than the provider; filters are not always up to date.
  2. Open the game and find the 'i', '?' or menu icon that leads to the rules.
  3. Read the RTP figure and compare it with the one in our tables; if it is lower, the casino is using a different setting.
  4. Note the minimum and maximum stake; your age band caps the top stake at £2 or £5.
  5. For jackpot games, read how the jackpot is triggered and whether all stake sizes qualify.
  6. Set a deposit limit in your account before you start.

Our step-by-step guide to finding a slot's RTP shows where the figure sits in typical help screens.

Games Global slot myths, checked

Long-running games attract long-running myths. These are the ones most often attached to this catalogue.

Myths and facts about Games Global slots
MythWhat actually happens
A big Mega Moolah jackpot means it is 'due' to drop. Each spin is independent. The jackpot size doesn't change the chance of triggering the wheel.
Microgaming games paid better before the 2022 change. The RTP is part of the game model; a change of owner doesn't alter the maths of an existing game.
Older slots like Thunderstruck are looser. There's no such thing as a loose online slot; the published RTP applies to every spin.
Stopping the reels quickly helps. The result is fixed by the RNG before the reels stop; UK games have no slam-stop anyway.
The demo shows how the real game will pay today.Demos use the same rules, but every session is random; a good demo run predicts nothing.

Our slot machine myths guide covers these ideas across all machines, including pub fruit machines, where holds and nudges add a small element of choice but never overcome the built-in payout percentage.

Games Global slots and land-based machines

Games Global's catalogue is built for online play. The slot machines you find in UK pubs, bingo halls, arcades and betting shops belong to the land-based Categories B to D, each with its own stake and prize limits, and are made by a different group of manufacturers. Online slots sit outside those categories and are controlled instead by the online stake limits and design rules above. If you play both, our online vs land-based comparison explains how payouts, speed and limits differ between a pub machine and an online game.

Where to play Games Global slots in the UK

Our partner casinos run large slot lobbies, but game availability changes, so search each casino's lobby for the specific Games Global title you want rather than assuming it is there. Our Coral jackpot slots page shows how one partner lobby organises progressive games.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Games Global slots?

Games Global is the company that owns or distributes them. It was established in 2022, is based in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and took over Microgaming's games portfolio and distribution business that year. Some titles are made by its in-house teams and others by partner studios that it distributes, such as Triple Edge, Stormcraft, Gameburger and Fortune Factory. The studio name in a game's help screen tells you who designed it. Our slot provider glossary entry explains how these relationships usually work between studios, distributors and casinos.

Is Games Global the same as Microgaming?

Not exactly: Games Global acquired Microgaming's games portfolio and distribution business in 2022, so the old Microgaming slots now sit under the Games Global name. Games such as Thunderstruck, Avalon and Mega Moolah are unchanged; reference sites simply label them 'Games Global (originally Microgaming)'. The change of owner doesn't alter each game's RTP or features, which are fixed in the game model. Thunderstruck is a good example of a Microgaming-era title still listed under the new name, and our online slot history page gives wider context.

What is the RTP of Games Global slots?

It depends on the game, with the non-jackpot titles we track listed between 95.43% and 96.86%. Immortal Romance is the highest at 96.86%, and Break da Bank Again is the lowest of that group at 95.43%. Jackpot games are lower because part of each stake funds the prize pools: Mega Moolah's base game is listed at 88.12% and Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels at 90.3% including the jackpot contribution. Casinos can sometimes choose a different RTP setting, so always read the figure in the help screen. Our RTP explainer shows how to turn these into pounds.

What are the most famous Games Global slots?

Mega Moolah, Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II are the titles most closely linked with the company. Mega Moolah, released in November 2006, is known for its four-tier progressive jackpot wheel. Immortal Romance pays on 243 ways with a listed top win of 12,150 times the stake, and Thunderstruck II also uses 243 ways with an 8,000x cap. Newer names include Gold Blitz, Immortal Romance II and The Finer Reels of Life WowPot. Our Immortal Romance page covers the highest-RTP game of the group in depth, including its free-spin structure.

Why is Mega Moolah's RTP so low?

Because part of every stake is set aside to fund the progressive jackpots rather than paid back through the reels. The 88.12% listed for Mega Moolah covers only the base game; the total return including the jackpot contribution is higher, but most players never receive the jackpot share. In practice, 100 spins at 20p cost about £2.38 on average from the base game alone, against about 67p on Thunderstruck II. That is the price of a small chance at a pooled prize. Our page on how jackpots are funded explains contributions and seeds.

How much can you win on a Games Global slot in the UK?

On non-jackpot games, the most is the max win multiple times your stake, and your stake is capped at £5 a spin if you are 25 or over and £2 if you are 18 to 24. Immortal Romance's 12,150x cap is worth £60,750 at £5 and £24,300 at £2. Thunderstruck II's 8,000x cap is £40,000 at £5. These are ceilings that very few spins reach, not expected results. Progressive jackpots are pools in pounds shown in the game. See our page on max win caps for how these limits work.

Can I play Games Global slots for free?

Yes, in demo mode, but only after the casino has verified your age, which has been required in Great Britain since May 2019. Demo play uses the same rules and maths as the real game, so it is a reasonable way to learn the features and paytable without staking money. It cannot tell you what will happen in a real-money session, because every spin is random. Some casinos don't offer demos for jackpot games. Our guide to demo slots explains the age-verification rule and what demos can and cannot show.

Do Games Global slots have bonus buy in the UK?

No, slots supplied to UK-licensed casinos don't include a bonus buy option. Elsewhere, some games let players pay a fixed multiple of the stake to go straight to the bonus, but that option is absent from the versions supplied to Great Britain. The UK versions also have no autoplay, no turbo mode, and a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin under the Gambling Commission's design rules in force since 31 October 2021. Our page on bonus buy in the UK explains how this works and why UK and international versions of the same slot can differ.

Which Games Global slot is best for a small budget?

A low-volatility game with a high RTP will usually make a small budget last longest, though no choice changes the long-run cost. Agent Jane Blonde Returns is listed as low volatility with a 96.6% RTP, so 100 spins at 20p cost about 68p on average, with smaller, more frequent wins than a high-volatility game such as Book of Oz. Mega Moolah is also listed as low volatility, but its lower base RTP makes it dearer to play. Our guide to the best slots for small budgets shows how to compare options in pounds.

What is a WowPot slot?

A WowPot slot is a Games Global game linked to the WowPot progressive jackpot, which is triggered through a jackpot wheel. The Finer Reels of Life WowPot is one example: a 5x3, 243-ways game with four 'Finer' free-spin modes, a published RTP of 92.01% including the jackpot contribution, and a top base-game win of 8,100x excluding the jackpots. The lower RTP reflects money set aside for the jackpot pools. The jackpot wheel picks a tier once triggered, and our progressive jackpot slots page covers the wider category.
