Moon Princess vs Moon Princess 100 is a choice between a lower average cost and a higher ceiling. Play'n GO's original pays 96.50% with a 5,000x max win; the 2022 follow-up pays 96.2% at its top setting but triples the ceiling to 15,000x. Both use a high-volatility 5×5 cascading grid where three or more matching symbols in a row or column win.
The original's 96.50% RTP is 0.3 points higher: £3.50 vs £3.80 average cost per £100 staked.
Moon Princess 100 triples the ceiling, from 5,000x to 15,000x.
Both are high volatility on the same 5×5 grid with cascading wins.
96.2% is Moon Princess 100's top version, so check the help screen for the setting your casino uses.

Moon Princess vs Moon Princess 100 at a glance
Moon Princess is one of Play'n GO's best-known grid games: a 5×5 board, three princess characters and wins that cascade. Moon Princess 100 keeps that board and the high-volatility profile, but it reworks the maths around a far bigger top prize. If you are weighing up other sequels, our slot comparison hub has them side by side.

How wins form on the Moon Princess grid
Neither game uses paylines. A win needs three or more identical symbols next to each other in a straight horizontal row or vertical column. Winning symbols then disappear and the symbols above drop down, with new ones filling the gaps from the top. This cascading reels process (also called a tumble) repeats until no new win forms, so one paid spin can contain several wins.
Here's a simple worked example on a 5×5 board. Suppose three hearts line up in the middle row, columns 2 to 4. They pay and vanish; the symbols above fall one space; and a new set of three blue gems happens to line up vertically in column 3. That second win is paid within the same spin. The values depend on the paytable; the point is that a single stake can produce a chain of wins, which is why grid slot machines feel so different from line games.
The princesses and their grid-changing powers
Both games feature three princesses whose powers change the board: transforming symbols, adding wilds or clearing symbols so that new cascades can form. Effects like these are covered in general on our pages on symbol transformation and random wilds. When the powers trigger and exactly what each does is set out in each game's help screen, and Moon Princess 100 retunes them as part of its new maths model.
Both games also have a free spins round where multipliers carry more weight than in the base game. Because the sequel's ceiling is three times higher, more of its return is likely to be concentrated in that round. Play'n GO doesn't publish trigger rates that we hold, so we don't estimate how often either round appears.
From 5,000x to 15,000x: what the bigger ceiling costs
Moon Princess 100 is a neat illustration of a trade-off seen across modern slot design. The sequel offers a ceiling three times higher, yet its top RTP is 0.3 points lower. Two things happen at once: the house keeps a little more on average, and the return that remains is spread over a wider range of outcomes, with more of it sitting in rare, large results.
In pounds: £100 staked at £1 a spin costs £3.50 on average on the original and £3.80 on the sequel. That 30p is the price, in long-run terms, of the larger top prize. Whether it's worth paying depends entirely on how you like a game to behave. How a ceiling is built into the maths is covered under max win caps.
Moon Princess 100 RTP: why 'top version' matters
Our data lists 96.2% as Moon Princess 100's top version, which means the game is also supplied at lower settings. Casinos choose which one to run, and a lower version could cost noticeably more over time. The same can apply to the original. RTP variants explains why studios do this. The Gambling Commission's standard on game rules and the likelihood of winning (opens in a new tab) is why the figure should be available in the game itself.
Open Moon Princess 100 without placing a stake.
Tap the menu, then the paytable or game rules.
Scroll to the line headed 'return to player' or 'RTP'.
Compare it with 96.2%; if it's lower, the game costs more on average.
Do the same for Moon Princess and compare with 96.50%.
The table shows how much 100 spins stake in total and the average theoretical cost at each game's listed RTP.

Remember that these are averages over enormous numbers of spins. On high-volatility games, a real 100-spin session can lose far more than the table shows, or occasionally return more than was staked.
Max win at UK stake limits
Since 2025, online slot stakes in Great Britain have been capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds (see the Gambling Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab)). The ceilings convert like this.

At £5, the sequel's top prize is £75,000 against £25,000 for the original. Both are extremely rare outcomes and shouldn't shape your expectations for a session.
High volatility and your budget
Both games are high-volatility slot machines, so dry spells are part of the design. A £50 budget at 50p a spin covers 100 spins if nothing comes back. With cascades, small wins do arrive, but most of the value sits in the princess features and free spins, and it's common for a budget to be gone before the bigger moments appear. The sequel, with its taller ceiling, leans further that way.
UK rules for both Moon Princess slots
UK versions follow the online slot design rules in force since 31 October 2021: no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, at least 2.5 seconds per spin, net position on screen and no celebration of returns equal to or less than the stake. The Commission's summary of the rule changes (opens in a new tab) has the exact wording, and our page on the spin speed rule explains how the 2.5 seconds is measured. Feature buys aren't offered on UK versions, and demo play is free only after age verification.
Moon Princess myths
'Long cascade chains mean the game is warming up.' Each spin's result is decided by the RNG when you press spin; the cascade only plays it out.
'A princess power is due after a quiet spell.' Features aren't due; every spin is independent.
'A 15,000x ceiling means bigger wins in general.' It means a bigger possible top prize; typical sessions may feel leaner.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Moon Princess and Moon Princess 100?
The main differences are the maths: Moon Princess 100 triples the max win from 5,000x to 15,000x, and its top RTP is slightly lower at 96.2% against the original's 96.50%. Both are high-volatility Play'n GO games on a 5×5 grid where three or more matching symbols in a row or column win and cascade away. The sequel was released in 2022. See the Moon Princess 100 slot page for more detail.
Which Moon Princess has the better RTP?
The original Moon Princess has the better listed RTP at 96.50%, against 96.2% for the top version of Moon Princess 100. On £100 staked, that's an average cost of £3.50 against £3.80 over the long run. Because 96.2% is the sequel's top version, a casino could run a lower setting, so check the help screen. Our RTP explainer explains what the figure means in practice.
What is the max win on Moon Princess 100?
Moon Princess 100's max win is 15,000x the stake. A £5 spin, the UK limit for players 25 and over, would make that £75,000; a £2 spin, the limit for 18 to 24-year-olds, £30,000; a 20p spin, £3,000. The original's ceiling is 5,000x. Both maximums are extremely rare outcomes. For what happens when a round hits its cap, see max win caps.
How do wins work in Moon Princess?
Wins form when three or more identical symbols sit next to each other in a straight horizontal row or vertical column on the 5×5 grid. Winning symbols disappear, the symbols above fall down and new ones drop in, which can create further wins in the same spin. There are no paylines. This is the same in both games. Our cascading reels page explains how tumbling wins are calculated.
Is Moon Princess 100 more volatile than Moon Princess?
Both are rated high volatility. With a ceiling three times higher and a slightly lower RTP, Moon Princess 100 is likely to concentrate more of its return in rare, large outcomes, which usually makes ordinary sessions feel leaner. Play'n GO doesn't publish figures we hold that measure the gap, so treat this as a general principle. See volatility for what the rating means.
How much does 100 spins of Moon Princess cost?
A hundred 20p spins add up to £20 staked. The average theoretical cost is 70p on Moon Princess and 76p on Moon Princess 100 at its top RTP. At £1 a spin those become £3.50 and £3.80. Real results swing widely on high-volatility games, so you can lose much more than the average in a short session. Try other figures in our slot cost calculator.
Can you buy free spins on Moon Princess in the UK?
No. Feature buys aren't offered on slots at UK-licensed casinos, so free spins and princess features only trigger through normal play. There isn't a single dated Commission rule that names the ban, but it's how games are supplied to Great Britain. If you see a buy option in a video, it was recorded on a non-UK version. Read more on bonus buy in the UK.
Is Moon Princess a cluster pays slot?
Not quite. Cluster pays games usually pay for groups of matching symbols touching in any shape, while Moon Princess pays for three or more in a straight row or column. Both use a grid and cascades, which is why they're often grouped together. The rules for exactly what counts as a win are in each game's help screen. Our cluster pays slot machines page explains the difference in more detail.
Can I play Moon Princess in demo mode?
Yes. UK-licensed casinos that carry these games usually let you try them in free demo play, after age verification, a check required for free-to-play games since May 2019. The demo uses the same rules and maths as the real game, so it's useful for learning the grid and the princess powers before staking money. It can't tell you how a real session will go. See our demo slots guide.
