Age of the Gods: God of Storms slot machine overview

Playtech built the Age of the Gods brand around one idea: lots of separate games, each with its own base game and feature, all feeding and sharing the same set of progressive jackpots. The original Age of the Gods came out in 2016; God of Storms followed in 2017 with a Greek sea-voyage theme, the god of the winds and a ship that sails across the reels.

In mechanical terms it is a traditional lines slot. There are five reels, three rows and up to 25 paylines, a wild symbol, a set of mythological high pays and card-rank low pays. What makes it different from a modern bonus-heavy game is that it has no free spins round. All the extra value comes from two places: the Wild Wind Respins, which you see often enough to recognise, and the jackpot game, which is rare and random.

If you enjoy Greek mythology slots but find modern pays-anywhere games like Gates of Olympus too chaotic, this is the older, calmer branch of the theme.

How the paylines and stake work

Unlike most recent slots, God of Storms lets you choose how many of its 25 lines are active. Your total stake is the line bet multiplied by the number of lines. Wins pay left to right on active lines only, so a combination landing on a line you switched off pays nothing.

  1. Choose the number of active paylines, from one up to 25.
  2. Set the bet per line. The game shows the total stake per spin, which in Great Britain cannot exceed £5 if you are 25 or over, or £2 if you are 18–24.
  3. Press spin. The RNG decides the outcome before the reels move, and the UK minimum spin time of 2.5 seconds applies.
  4. Line wins are paid; a stacked ship wild may start the Wild Wind Respins; on any spin, the jackpot game may begin.

Is it worth playing fewer lines? Fewer lines lowers your stake per spin, but it also means fewer winning combinations count, and the feature can produce wins you would miss. On jackpot games the chance of entering the jackpot round is often tied to your total stake, so a smaller stake can also mean fewer chances there. The help screen states how your copy works. Our article on whether you should play max lines explains the trade-off with numbers.

Wild Wind Respins: how the moving ship wild works

The game’s signature feature starts when a stacked ship wild lands fully on one of the middle reels. The ship locks in place and the other reels respin. After each respin, the god of the winds blows the ship one reel along, and the multiplier on wins rises by one step, from 1× up to a maximum of 5×. The feature continues until the ship is blown off the edge of the grid.

This is a version of what the industry calls walking wilds, combined with a wild multiplier. A ship that lands further from the edge it is blown towards gives more respins, and so more chances at the higher multiplier steps. More than one ship can extend the sequence.

Worked example

Imagine a £1 stake across 25 lines (4p a line). The ship lands on the second reel and is blown one reel per respin. On the first respin the ship covers a reel and helps form a line win worth 10× the line bet: 40p at 1×. If a similar win forms two respins later, the multiplier has climbed to 3×, so it pays £1.20. The example is illustrative; actual symbol pays are in the paytable, and the order in which the ship moves is described in the game rules.

The Wild Wind Respins cost nothing extra and cannot be triggered on demand. They are part of the published RTP, so their average value is already counted.

The Age of the Gods progressive jackpot game

Every spin on God of Storms can start the shared Age of the Gods jackpot round at random, including spins that otherwise lose. When it starts, you see a grid of 20 face-down coins. You pick coins one at a time until three matching jackpot symbols appear, and you win that jackpot tier. There is no losing outcome once the round begins: you always finish with one of the four tiers.

PowerMatch three Power coinsSmallest pool; resets and refills often
Extra PowerMatch three Extra Power coinsLarger pool
Super PowerMatch three Super Power coinsLarger again
Ultimate PowerMatch three Ultimate Power coinsTop pool, shared across the series; grows until won

Each stake on any Age of the Gods game adds a small slice to the pools, and each tier restarts from a set seed after it is won. That is why the jackpot amounts on screen change constantly and why we cannot quote a fixed figure. Our mini, major, grand glossary entry covers tiered jackpots, and how slot jackpots get so big explains the pooling.

Picking coins does not change the result: the tier you win is decided when the round starts, and the coin reveal is how the game shows it. That makes it a presentation in the style of a pick-me bonus, not a skill game.

Age of the Gods: God of Storms RTP explained

The published Age of the Gods: God of Storms RTP is 96.14%, including the jackpot contribution. That last part matters. A slice of every stake goes into the jackpot pools, and that slice is counted inside the 96.14%. So the return you get from line wins and respins alone is somewhat lower, and part of the theoretical return is only paid to the few players who land jackpots. This is normal for jackpot contribution games.

£5 (25+ limit)£500£19.30

Published sources give conflicting volatility labels for this game, so we do not state one. The base structure, with no free spins and a moderate respin multiplier, points towards steadier play than most modern bonus-led slots, while the jackpot adds a rare outlier result. See what is a good RTP for a slot for how 96.14% compares.

Age of the Gods: God of Storms max win

There is no single Age of the Gods: God of Storms max win multiple we can confirm. The largest possible result is the Ultimate Power jackpot, whose size depends on how much has been staked across the network since it was last won. Outside the jackpot, the top line win is set by the paytable and the 5× respin multiplier.

For a UK comparison, a Category B1 casino machine has a £10,000 maximum prize, or £20,000 for a progressive jackpot linked within one premises. Online network jackpots are not bound by those land-based categories, which is why they can grow far larger, and why they are also far less likely to be won by any individual player.

Who the Age of the Gods: God of Storms slot suits

Advantages

  • Published RTP of 96.14%, high for a jackpot slot
  • Adjustable lines give finer control over stake size
  • Wild Wind Respins are easy to follow
  • Every spin carries a small chance of the jackpot round

Drawbacks

  • No free spins round
  • Part of the RTP is reserved for rare jackpot winners
  • No fixed maximum win to plan around
  • Older 2017 presentation compared with recent releases

It suits players who like a straightforward lines game with a single, readable feature and an outside chance at a pooled prize. It suits less well anyone who wants a long, building bonus round; for that, look at hold and win style games.

Jackpot myths to ignore

  • A jackpot that has not dropped for a while is due. Each spin’s chance is set by the maths; there is no due point. See what happens when a slot jackpot is won.
  • Picking certain coin positions wins a bigger tier. The tier is fixed before you pick.
  • Playing one line keeps the jackpot chance the same. On many jackpot games the chance scales with stake; check the help screen.
  • The ship always lands where it pays most. Where it lands is random; the RNG does not steer it towards wins.

God of Storms demo and how to check the RTP

A demo, where offered, is free demo play after age verification; UK operators must confirm you are 18 or over before letting you use free-to-play games. The jackpot round in a demo is not connected to real pools. To confirm the RTP in the real game, open the menu, choose the help or rules page and scroll to the return-to-player statement. Our guide to finding a slot’s RTP shows the usual layout.

UK rules that apply to this Playtech slot

In Great Britain, the game runs without autoplay or turbo spins and with at least 2.5 seconds per spin, under the Gambling Commission’s online game design rules in force since 31 October 2021. Stake limits of £5 per spin (25 and over) and £2 per spin (18–24) apply, and are described in the Commission’s online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). Outcomes must come from a tested random generator meeting RTS 7 on random outcomes (opens in a new tab). For the developer’s own background, see Playtech’s website (opens in a new tab). Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Age of the Gods: God of Storms?

The published RTP is 96.14%, and it includes the jackpot contribution. Part of each stake funds the shared progressive jackpots, so the return from line wins and respins alone is lower than 96.14%, and the jackpot share goes to the few players who win one. Over £100 of stakes the long-run average cost is about £3.86. Confirm the figure in your casino’s help screen. Our explainer on are high RTP slots better puts the number in context.

Does God of Storms have free spins?

No, God of Storms has no free spins round. Its main feature is the Wild Wind Respins, which start when a stacked ship wild lands fully on the reels. The ship is blown one reel along after each respin while the multiplier on wins climbs to a maximum of 5×. The other source of extra value is the random Age of the Gods jackpot game. If you specifically want free spins, our page on free spins explains which kinds of slots use them.

How do you win the jackpot on Age of the Gods: God of Storms?

The jackpot game starts at random on any spin; you cannot trigger it with symbols. Once it starts, you pick from 20 coins until three matching jackpot symbols appear, and you win that tier: Power, Extra Power, Super Power or Ultimate Power. The tier is decided when the round begins, so picking does not change it. On many jackpot games the chance of entry scales with stake; check the rules. See what are the odds of winning a slot machine jackpot.

What is the max win on God of Storms?

There is no fixed maximum win multiple we can confirm, because the top prize is the Ultimate Power progressive jackpot. Its value depends on how much has been staked across the Age of the Gods network since it was last won, and it resets to a seed after each win. Outside the jackpot, the biggest result comes from line wins boosted by the respin multiplier. The live jackpot meters show current amounts. Our max win entry explains how caps and jackpots differ.

Should I play all 25 lines on God of Storms?

Playing all 25 lines is usually the better choice if your budget allows it at a sensible line bet. Fewer active lines lower your stake but also mean fewer winning combinations count, so you can watch a win land on a line you switched off. On jackpot games, entry chances are often linked to total stake. A lower line bet across all lines is generally more sensible than a higher bet on few lines. Read should you play max lines for the maths.

Is God of Storms the same as the original Age of the Gods?

No. Both feed the same four jackpot pools, but they are separate games. The 2016 original has 20 fixed lines and a published RTP of 95.02% including jackpots; God of Storms, from 2017, has up to 25 adjustable lines, a 96.14% published RTP including jackpots and its own Wild Wind Respins. The theme differs too, with God of Storms built around the god of the winds and a ship. Our Age of the Gods page covers the original.

Can I play the God of Storms demo in the UK?

Yes, where a site offers it, as free demo play after age verification. Since May 2019 UK-licensed operators must verify that you are 18 or over before you can play free-to-play versions. The demo uses play credits and is not linked to the real jackpot pools, so jackpot wins in it are not real. It is still useful for seeing how the ship wild moves. See our demo slots guide for more on how demos work.

Is a progressive jackpot ever due to drop?

No. A progressive jackpot that has grown large is not more likely to drop on your next spin. Each spin has the chance the game’s maths sets, whatever happened before. A larger meter only means more has been staked since the last win. Some networks use must-drop jackpots that have a fixed ceiling, but the Age of the Gods tiers described here are random progressives. Our page on must-drop jackpot slots explains the different design.

Who makes Age of the Gods: God of Storms?

Playtech makes it. The company was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, is headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is known for the Age of the Gods jackpot series and for live casino. It also owns studios such as Quickspin. Our Playtech provider page covers its history and best-known slots, and what is a slot provider explains how studios supply casinos.

Are jackpot wins taxed in the UK?

No. Gambling winnings, including progressive jackpots, are not taxed for players in the UK. Operators pay duties instead: remote gaming duty on online casino play, which rose from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. A large win may trigger identity and source-of-funds checks before payment, which is a licensing requirement, not a tax. Our page on slot winnings tax explains the position, and can a casino refuse to pay a slot win covers disputes.
