The Age of the Gods slot is Playtech's 2016 Greek-myth game: five reels, three rows and 20 fixed paylines, linked to a four-level progressive jackpot topped by Ultimate Power. Its 95.02% RTP includes the slice of each stake that funds those jackpots, which shapes what an ordinary session costs. Here is how the reels, free games and jackpot round work.
At its core this is a straightforward paylines game. What sets it apart is the second layer: on any paid spin, a jackpot round can start at random, independent of what the reels show.

How the Age of the Gods slot machine works
Choose your stake. The 20 lines are fixed, so the stake covers all of them.
The RNG decides the symbols on each reel and, separately, whether the jackpot round starts.
Line wins pay for matching symbols from the leftmost reel along any of the 20 lines.
Enough bonus symbols start the free games, played at the stake that triggered them.
If the jackpot round is triggered, it plays after the spin and awards one of the four jackpot levels.
The spin ends and your balance and net result for the session are displayed.
Every UK online slot must meet the Commission's design rules introduced on 31 October 2021: no autoplay, no turbo, a spin cycle of at least 2.5 seconds and no fanfare for a return that only equals or undercuts the stake. The same rules apply to older games such as this one in their UK versions.
Reading the Age of the Gods paytable
With fixed lines, the arithmetic is simple. A £1 spin is £1 spread across 20 lines, so 5p per line. A paytable entry shown as "20x line bet" would pay £1 on that stake; one shown as a multiple of the total stake pays that multiple of £1. Check which convention the paytable uses: older Playtech games often state line pays in coins or line-bet multiples.

The multiples in that table are examples for the arithmetic, not the game's actual pays. Higher-value symbols are the gods; lower values are typically the card-style or minor icons. Wild symbols substitute for paying symbols; the help screen says whether they also stand in for the bonus symbols.
Age of the Gods free spins (free games)
The bonus round is a set of free games triggered by bonus symbols on the reels. The options are themed on Greek gods, each changing the round in a different way, for example with extra wilds or multipliers. The exact options, spin counts and modifiers are set out in the game's help screen, which is the only reliable source for them at your casino.
A choice of free-games modes doesn't change the game's RTP in your favour. Each option is designed to return roughly the same on average; what differs is the shape. More spins with a smaller multiplier gives a steadier round; fewer spins with a bigger multiplier gives a swingier one. The free spins feature guide explains the trade-off with numbers.
The Age of the Gods jackpots: Power to Ultimate Power
There are four jackpot levels: Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. They are progressive: each paid spin on a linked game adds a small amount to the pots, which grow until someone wins one. The pot then resets to a seed value. Our page on how slot jackpots are funded covers seeding and contribution, and Wikipedia's overview of the progressive jackpot (opens in a new tab) gives the wider background.

The jackpot round starts at random on a paid spin. In the round you pick from a grid of coins until you reveal enough matching ones to win a level; the help screen describes the exact mechanics. On many random-trigger jackpot games the chance of reaching the round scales with stake, and the rules state whether and how that applies here. No pot is "due": the trigger has no memory and a large pot is no more likely to drop than a small one. Read what happens when a slot jackpot is won for the payout process.
Age of the Gods RTP: what 95.02% really means
Age of the Gods RTP is 95.02%, and that figure includes the jackpot contribution. Part of that return is paid out only to the rare players who win a jackpot. For everyone else, the return from base wins and free games is lower than 95.02% on average, because the jackpot slice is collected from every spin but paid back to very few.

So a 100-spin session at 50p (£50 staked) costs £2.49 on long-run average, but if you don't win a jackpot, which is by far the most likely case, your typical cost is a bit higher. The game's help screen may split the figure into base and jackpot parts; if it does, the base number is the better guide to a normal session. Our RTP explainer covers the general idea.
Age of the Gods max win and stake limits
The Age of the Gods max win is the Ultimate Power jackpot, whose value is whatever the pooled pot stands at when it is won. Because the amount is pooled, it isn't a fixed multiple of your stake, so a stake-by-stake cap table doesn't apply in the usual way. Outside the jackpots, base-game and free-games wins are set by the paytable; the help screen lists the top line pays.
A shared four-level jackpot with a chance on any paid spin.
Medium base-game volatility.
Drawbacks
95.02% RTP is below many modern slots, and includes the jackpot slice.
The top jackpot is very unlikely on any given session.
Free games options must be read in the help screen.
It suits adults who enjoy a traditional-looking slot and accept paying a little extra per spin for a small chance at a pooled jackpot. If the long-run cost matters more to you than the jackpot, compare it with high RTP slot machines. The trade-off between pooled and fixed prizes is laid out in fixed vs progressive jackpots.
Age of the Gods jackpot myths
"The jackpot is about to drop because it is so big." The trigger is random every spin; pot size doesn't change it.
"Someone just won, so it won't pay again for weeks." Wins are independent; two can land close together.
"Playing late at night improves the odds." Fewer players means slower pot growth, not better odds per spin.
"Small stakes can't win the jackpot." They can if the rules allow it at any stake; the help screen says whether stake affects the chance.
An Age of the Gods demo is available at many UK casinos after age verification. Demo play doesn't usually include the live jackpot, because play credits can't win pooled real-money prizes, so it shows the base game and free games only. Real-money versions in Great Britain have no feature buy. Before playing, set a deposit limit and, if you need a break from all online gambling, register with GAMSTOP. Free, confidential support is also available from GamCare (opens in a new tab) and the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Age of the Gods?
Age of the Gods has an RTP of 95.02%, and that figure includes the jackpot contribution. Because part of every stake funds the progressive pots and is paid back to only a few winners, the average return from ordinary play, without a jackpot, is somewhat lower. Over £100 staked, the long-run cost including jackpots is £4.98. Check the help screen for any split between base and jackpot RTP. See jackpot contribution.
How do you win the Age of the Gods jackpot?
The jackpot round starts at random on a paid spin, regardless of the symbols on the reels. In the round you pick from a grid of coins until matching coins reveal one of the four levels: Power, Extra Power, Super Power or Ultimate Power. The help screen states the exact rules and whether stake size affects the chance of entering the round. See jackpot slot machines for how pooled games work.
What is the max win on Age of the Gods?
The top prize is the Ultimate Power progressive jackpot. Its value is the amount in the pooled pot when it is won, shown live on screen, so it isn't a fixed multiple of your stake. Outside the jackpots, the largest line wins and free games results are set by the paytable in the help screen. We don't quote jackpot sizes because they change constantly. Read how slot jackpots get so big.
What are the four Age of the Gods jackpots?
The four levels are Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power, from smallest to largest. Each is a progressive pot fed by a small share of stakes on linked Age of the Gods games. When a level is won it resets to its starting seed and begins growing again. The current values are displayed in the game. Our page on linked progressives explains how networks share pots.
Is Age of the Gods high volatility?
Its base game is generally rated medium volatility, though some sources describe it as medium to high. The jackpot layer adds a very rare, very large outcome that most players never see. Day to day, expect a mix of small line wins, blank spins and an occasional free games round. If you want lower swings, a lower volatility game may suit you better; see medium volatility slot machines.
Who makes Age of the Gods?
Playtech makes Age of the Gods, and it was released in 2016. The game launched a whole series of Greek-myth slots that share the same four-level jackpot network, with later titles using different reels and features. Playtech supplies its games to licensed casinos, which decide whether to carry the series. See our Playtech provider page for more of its games.
Can I play Age of the Gods for free?
UK casinos can offer a demo only after verifying that you are 18 or over, a rule in place since 2019. A demo shows the base game and free games with play credits. It usually doesn't include live jackpot pots, since those are funded by real stakes. Use it to read the paytable, not to judge timing, because every spin is random. See demo slot age verification.
Does a bigger stake give a better chance of the jackpot?
On many random-trigger jackpot games it does, because the chance of entering the jackpot round is linked to stake size. Whether and how that applies to Age of the Gods is stated in its help screen, so check there. Even where a higher stake increases the chance, it also raises the cost of every spin, and the jackpot remains extremely unlikely. Read what are the odds of winning a jackpot.
Can I use free spins on Age of the Gods?
Usually not. Free spins offers name the selected games they can be used on, and progressive jackpot games are often left out because a slice of each stake funds a shared pot. The Coral and Ladbrokes spins listed on this page are for selected slots, and PlayOJO's are on Big Bass Bonanza. Always check the offer terms. Our jackpot slots bonus page explains how jackpot-game exclusions work.
Do I pay tax on an Age of the Gods jackpot?
No. Gambling winnings are not taxed for players in the UK, whether from a small line win or a progressive jackpot. Operators pay duty on their gambling profits instead. A large win may lead the casino to carry out identity and source-of-funds checks before paying, so having verified your account in advance helps. More on payouts is in what happens when a slot jackpot is won.
