Le Viking slot: Hacksaw’s Norse entry in the “Le” series

Hacksaw Gaming launched in September 2018, is headquartered in Malta and has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025. It holds a Gambling Commission licence (reference 000-054059) and is best known for Wanted Dead or a Wild. Its “Le” titles share a naming style and a cartoon look: Le Viking, released in January 2025, followed Le Bandit and Le Pharaoh, the latter released in September 2024.

Le Viking takes the series into Norse and Viking slots, a theme with a long list of rivals. Each of the three “Le” games uses a different way of paying out, so playing one doesn’t mean you know how the next works. Le Viking uses all-ways pays on a fixed grid. More slots explained in the same plain way are on our slots hub.

How the Le Viking slot machine works

  1. Set your total stake; every one of the 15,625 ways is active on every spin.
  2. Press spin yourself. UK slots have no autoplay and each spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds.
  3. The random number generator sets all 30 symbol positions, and the outcome of any feature, before the reels move.
  4. The game looks for matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel.
  5. Each combination is paid as many times as there are ways to make it.
  6. Your balance and net position update, and the next spin can begin.

There are no paylines to choose or track. Any position on a reel counts, provided the symbol appears on each reel in an unbroken run from reel 1. Our paylines and ways explainer covers the difference in detail.

Le Viking’s 15,625 ways: where the number comes from

With five positions on each of six reels, a symbol can be picked up in 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 = 5⁶ = 15,625 different left-to-right paths. Unlike Megaways games, the grid never changes size, so the ways total is the same on every spin.

How the ways total grows with grid size
GridCalculationWays
5 reels × 3 rows3⁵243
5 reels × 4 rows4⁵1,024
6 reels × 4 rows4⁶4,096
6 reels × 5 rows (Le Viking)5⁶15,625

A worked example

Suppose a Viking symbol lands twice on reel 1, once on reel 2 and three times on reel 3, and not at all on reel 4. That is a three-of-a-kind on 2 × 1 × 3 = 6 ways, so the three-of-a-kind prize for that symbol is paid six times. If wild symbols are in play, they count as extra matches on their reels and raise the number of ways. Our pages on 243 ways slots and 1024 ways slots show the same counting on smaller grids.

Le Viking bonus features and free spins

Hacksaw slots usually have more than one bonus game, each reached by landing a different number of scatter symbols, and higher tiers tend to carry stronger modifiers. We have not been able to verify Le Viking’s own feature list, triggers and multiplier values from Hacksaw’s published material, so we do not describe them here. They are set out in the game’s rules screen, which is the authoritative source for the version your casino runs.

One thing is certain for British players: slots supplied to Great Britain do not include a bonus buy. Outside the UK, Hacksaw games are often sold with paid routes into the features, and overseas videos may show these. In the UK every bonus round comes from ordinary spins, so the cost of reaching a feature is part of the base-game stake. Our bonus features explainer describes the common types.

Le Viking RTP and medium volatility

The listed RTP is 96.32%. Across a very large number of spins, that returns about £96.32 for every £100 staked, keeping £3.68 as the house edge. Medium volatility means returns are spread more evenly than on high-volatility games, so sessions swing less, though big swings still happen.

50p£50£1.84
£1£100£3.68
£2£200£7.36
£5£500£18.40

As always, the third column is an average, not a forecast of a single session. Check the rules screen to confirm that your casino runs the 96.32% version.

Le Viking max win at UK stake limits

The maximum win is 10,000 times the stake. A cap this high on a medium-volatility game means the very top of the range is extremely rare; most of the RTP comes from ordinary wins and modest features.

10,000× max win in pounds
StakeTop prize
10p stake£1,000
£1 stake£10,000
£2 (18–24 limit)£20,000
£5 (25+ limit)£50,000

Players aged 18 to 24 are limited to £2 a spin online, and players 25 and over to £5, under the Gambling Commission’s online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). That makes £50,000 the most Le Viking can pay a UK player.

Le Viking vs Le Bandit and Le Pharaoh

Hacksaw’s “Le” slots compared (from our slot data)
SlotRTPVolatilityGridHow it paysTop prize
Le Viking96.32%Medium6 × 515,625 ways10,000×
Le Bandit96.34%Medium6 × 5Cluster pays10,000x
Le Pharaoh96.18%Medium (3 of 5)6 × 519 paylines15,000x

All three use a 6 × 5 grid, near-identical RTPs and medium volatility, but each pays differently: ways, clusters or lines. Le Pharaoh has the highest ceiling. For Viking-themed alternatives, Vikings Go Berzerk is a medium-to-high volatility 25-line game and Viking Runecraft uses cluster pays on a 7 × 7 grid.

Is Le Viking worth playing? Who the slot suits

Advantages

  • Medium volatility: steadier than many modern releases
  • Fixed 15,625 ways, so the structure is easy to understand
  • 96.32% RTP in the listed version
  • 10,000× ceiling

Drawbacks

  • Feature details need reading in the rules screen
  • Busy 30-position grid
  • No bonus buy in the UK, so features take time to arrive
  • Similar to its “Le” siblings, which may feel repetitive

It suits adults who want a modern feature slot without the extremes of the highest-volatility games, and who set a budget before they start. If you prefer very simple games, a classic slot is easier to follow.

Le Viking myths and the facts behind them

  • “More ways means better odds.” The ways count describes how wins are counted, not the RTP. Paytable values are set so the 96.32% holds.
  • “New releases pay more to attract players.” A slot’s RTP is fixed in its certified maths; launch date makes no difference.
  • “A scatter one short means the bonus is due.” Spins are independent; see the gambler’s fallacy.
  • “Hacksaw games are rigged because they are volatile.” Volatility is a design choice; UK-licensed games are tested for fairness.

Le Viking demo and checking the rules screen

  1. Create an account at a UK-licensed casino and pass age verification; free demo play is only available after that.
  2. Load Le Viking and open the information or rules menu.
  3. Confirm the RTP reads 96.32%.
  4. Read the list of bonus games and how many scatters each needs.
  5. Note any multiplier rules and the 10,000× cap before playing for money.

The Commission requires age verification before free-to-play games (opens in a new tab), a rule in force since May 2019. Our guide to finding a slot’s RTP covers help screens in more detail.

How UK rules shape the Le Viking slot

Le Viking was released in 2025, so it was built from the start for the British design rules that have applied since 31 October 2021: no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, a minimum 2.5-second spin and no celebration of a win that returns your stake or less. Your net position must stay visible during play.

It also arrived just before stake limits took effect: £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over from 9 April 2025, and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds from 21 May 2025. Winnings are not taxed for UK players. Our online slot stake limits page explains how casinos check which limit applies.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Le Viking?

Le Viking has a listed RTP of 96.32%. Over a very large number of spins that means about £96.32 returned for every £100 staked, so the long-run average cost is £3.68 per £100. A short session can finish well above or below that. Casinos can be supplied with other versions, so confirm the figure in the game’s rules screen. Our page on what a good RTP for a slot is puts 96.32% in context.

What is the max win on Le Viking?

The maximum win is 10,000 times your stake. At 10p that is £1,000, at £1 it is £10,000, at the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24 it is £20,000 and at the £5 limit for players 25 and over it is £50,000. It is a ceiling, not an expected result, and very few sessions come close. Our max win caps page explains how studios set and apply these limits.

How many ways to win does Le Viking have?

Le Viking has 15,625 ways to win on a fixed grid of six reels and five rows. The number comes from 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5: any position on each reel can join a winning run, as long as the matching symbols appear on adjacent reels from the left. Because the grid size never changes, the ways total is the same on every spin. See our ways to win slot machines page for the general idea.

Does Le Viking have free spins?

Hacksaw slots typically include one or more bonus rounds reached by landing scatter symbols, but we have not verified Le Viking’s exact feature list, triggers or multipliers from Hacksaw’s own material. The game’s rules screen lists every bonus in the version you are playing and what triggers each one. In the UK, the bonus cannot be bought, so it comes only from normal spins. Our page on how many spins until a bonus explains why there is no set number.

Is Le Viking high volatility?

No, Le Viking is rated medium volatility. Its returns are spread more evenly than a high-volatility game’s, so sessions tend to swing less, although long losing runs and occasional large wins both still happen. Medium volatility does not change the 96.32% RTP or the house edge. If you want something steadier still, look at low-volatility games. Our medium volatility slot machines page explains the category.

Can I play a Le Viking demo?

Yes, free demo play is available after age verification at UK-licensed casinos that carry the game. Since May 2019, operators have had to confirm a player is 18 or over before giving access to free-to-play games, so you will need an account. Demos use the same maths as the real game, so they are a fair way to see how features land, but demo credits have no cash value. Our demo slot age verification page explains the rule.

How does Le Viking differ from Le Bandit?

Both are medium-volatility Hacksaw Gaming slots on a 6 × 5 grid with a 10,000× max win and almost identical RTPs: 96.32% for Le Viking and 96.34% for Le Bandit. The key difference is how they pay. Le Viking uses 15,625 ways across adjacent reels, while Le Bandit uses cluster pays, where touching groups of symbols win. Their themes and bonus rounds also differ. Our Le Bandit page covers that game in full.

Who makes Le Viking?

Le Viking is made by Hacksaw Gaming, which launched in September 2018 and is headquartered in Malta. Its parent, Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025. The studio holds a Gambling Commission licence, reference 000-054059, so British casinos can offer its games. It also makes scratchcards and instant-win games, and its best-known slot is Wanted Dead or a Wild. See our Hacksaw Gaming page.

What is the maximum stake on Le Viking in the UK?

The maximum is £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. These limits apply to all online slots at British-licensed casinos from 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025. Casinos may set lower limits on some games, and bonus terms can cap stakes as well. Our page on the £2 stake limit for 18 to 24-year-olds explains how it is applied.

Is Le Viking a Megaways slot?

No. Le Viking uses a fixed 6 × 5 grid with 15,625 ways, so the number of ways is the same on every spin. Megaways slots, a mechanic created by Big Time Gaming, change the number of symbols on each reel every spin, so the ways total varies; on six-reel Megaways games it can reach 117,649. Both systems count wins the same way, from left to right on adjacent reels. Our Megaways slot machines page explains the difference.
