The Honey Rush slot is Play'n GO's hexagonal cluster-pays game: 37 cells, wins from clusters of five or more touching symbols, and a Rush meter that leads to moving Honeypot wilds with stacking multipliers. It has a 96.5% top RTP (lower versions exist), high volatility and a 9,000x max win.
Play'n GO, released 31 October 2019: a 37-cell hexagonal grid with cluster pays from 5 symbols.
Clusters fill a four-level Rush meter; filling it starts the Rush feature with Honeypot wilds.
Honeypot multipliers (x1–x3 each) multiply together: two x3 Honeypots in one cluster give x9.
96.5% RTP at best, high volatility, 9,000x max win: £18,000 at the £2 cap for 18–24s.

How the Honey Rush slot machine works on a hexagonal grid
Honey Rush doesn't use reels in the usual sense. Play'n GO arranged 37 hexagonal cells into a honeycomb, its first cascading hex-grid slot according to the studio's own game page. Each cell touches up to six neighbours, compared with four on a square grid, which changes how clusters form.
A win needs at least five matching symbols in a cluster, where every symbol in the cluster touches at least one other. Shape doesn't matter: a line, a ring or a blob all count. This is the cluster pays system, adapted to hexagons. After a win, the cluster disappears and new symbols drop in, which can create another cluster on the same paid spin; that's the cascading reels idea.
Set your stake and press spin; the RNG decides the 37 symbols.
Any cluster of 5+ matching, touching symbols pays and is removed.
Each removed symbol adds to the Rush meter (a six-symbol cluster adds six).
New symbols fall into the gaps; new clusters pay and are removed in turn.
If the spin had no win, the Worker Colony may start at random; if the meter fills, the Rush feature starts.

The Worker Colony: help on a losing spin
Play'n GO describes the Worker Colony as a feature that can activate at random on a spin with no win. It changes the symbols around the middle cell to match the middle symbol, building a cluster that then pays and clears. Because it only appears on otherwise losing spins, it turns some blanks into small wins.
Like any random feature, it's part of the RTP rather than a gift. It's also why Honey Rush shows fewer complete blanks than its high volatility might suggest; the bigger money still sits in the Rush feature.
The Rush meter and Honey Rush bonus explained
Every symbol in a winning cluster adds to the Rush meter, which has four levels. Each level reached gives a bonus, and filling the meter starts the Rush feature. The help screen explains whether the meter carries over between paid spins in your version; read it before assuming progress is saved.

Stage
What you get
What it does
Rush starts
Sticky Honeypot wild
Moves around the grid to help form clusters
Each new level
A Drone Colony
Turns five symbols around the centre into a match, used when no wins remain
Level 2
A second Honeypot wild
Another multiplier wild on the grid
Level 3
A further Honeypot wild

Level 4
Queen Colony
Builds a cluster of at least 20, with a chance to fill the whole grid
The developer's page is slightly ambiguous about the exact number of Honeypots at each level, so treat the rows above as the outline and the in-game rules as the final word. The Rush ends only when no winning combinations remain and every Colony has been used, so a strong Rush can run for many cascades.
Honey Rush has no conventional free spins round. The Rush feature does the job a free spins bonus does in other games: it's where most of the large results come from.
Honeypot multipliers: a worked example
Each Honeypot wild is randomly given a multiplier of x1, x2 or x3, applied to any cluster it forms part of. When more than one Honeypot is in the same cluster, the multipliers multiply together. The developer's own example is a cluster with two x3 wilds paying x9.

The £2 base win is invented for the example; real values depend on the symbol, cluster size and your stake. The point is how fast the combined multiplier grows, which is the main reason the game is rated high volatility. For more on the mechanics, see wild multipliers and multipliers.
Honey Rush RTP and versions
Published figures list Honey Rush at 96.5% RTP, with lower versions also in circulation. Play'n GO, like several studios, lets casinos choose a setting. The table uses the 96.5% figure, and the paragraph after it compares a hypothetical 94% setting to show what a version difference can cost; check the help screen for the real figure where you play.

Honey Rush max win at UK stakes
The Honey Rush max win is 9,000 times the stake. That is a high ceiling, reached only through an exceptional Rush with large clusters and stacked Honeypot multipliers. The table converts it at stakes allowed in Great Britain.

Online slot stakes are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over (since 9 April 2025) and £2 for players aged 18 to 24 (since 21 May 2025): see the Gambling Commission's stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). The odds of reaching the cap are tiny; it's a limit, not a likely result. Our page on max win caps explains how the game stops at the cap.
Honey Rush volatility: why the swings are big
Two design choices push the volatility up. First, the Rush feature holds a large share of the return, and it needs the meter filled. Second, multipliers that multiply each other create a very wide range of outcomes inside the Rush. Combined, these mean many spins pay little and a few pay a lot. For what to expect from games like this, see high volatility slot machines.
A practical example: £25 at 25p a spin is 100 spins, with a long-run average cost of 87.5p. In real play, that £25 can disappear without a Rush, or a single strong Rush can return several times the budget. Neither outcome can be predicted or engineered.
UK rules on the Honey Rush slot
Honey Rush was released on 31 October 2019, exactly two years before Great Britain's slot design rules took effect on 31 October 2021. Versions offered here now have no autoplay, take at least 2.5 seconds per game cycle, offer no turbo or slam-stop, and don't celebrate wins that are equal to or less than the stake. A long cascade sequence is still one game cycle and one result. Read our slot game design rules page for detail.
Free demo play of Honey Rush is available after age verification at UK-licensed sites. It's worth using to see how a hex cluster forms and how the Rush meter fills, which is harder to picture from a description. A demo can't tell you what will happen with real money, especially on a high-volatility game. See our demo slots guide.
Slots like Honey Rush
If you like cluster pays with a meter that builds to a feature, Play'n GO's Reactoonz and Reactoonz 2 use a related idea on square grids, and Gemix offers cascading clusters at a lower volatility rating in published figures. Push Gaming's Jammin' Jars is another cluster game with moving wilds. Our cluster pays history traces where the format came from.
Is Honey Rush worth playing?
Advantages
Distinctive hex grid with six-sided clusters
Worker Colony softens some losing spins
Clear, visible progress on the Rush meter
High 9,000x ceiling for a cluster game
Drawbacks
Lower RTP versions exist; check before playing
High volatility: most value is in the Rush
Meter progress can feel like it's 'building up' when it isn't promised
Rules for Honeypot counts need checking in-game
It suits adults who enjoy watching a feature build and accept long gaps between big results. If that sounds frustrating, choose something steadier. And remember a meter on screen isn't a promise; the gambler's fallacy page explains why progress bars can mislead.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Honey Rush?
Honey Rush has a top RTP of 96.5%, and lower versions also exist. Casinos choose which setting to run, so the figure where you play may be lower. At 96.5%, the game keeps an average of £3.50 for every £100 staked over the very long run, but individual sessions can be far better or worse. Open the help screen in the game to check the exact percentage. Why one game can have several settings is covered under RTP variants.
How does the Honey Rush bonus work?
Honey Rush has no standard free spins; its bonus is the Rush feature. Winning clusters fill a four-level Rush meter, with each symbol in a cluster adding one point. Filling the meter starts the Rush, which begins with a sticky Honeypot wild that moves around the grid. Further levels add more Honeypots, Drone Colonies that create clusters, and at level four a Queen Colony that builds a cluster of at least 20 symbols. The Rush ends when no wins remain and all Colonies are used. See cascading reels.
What is the max win on Honey Rush?
The maximum win is 9,000 times your stake. That works out at £900 at 10p, £9,000 at £1, £18,000 at the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24, and £45,000 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. Reaching it would need an exceptional Rush with large clusters and stacked Honeypot multipliers, so it's extremely rare. Casinos may also set payout limits in their terms. See max win caps for how caps are applied.
How do Honeypot multipliers work in Honey Rush?
Each Honeypot wild gets a random multiplier of x1, x2 or x3, which applies to any winning cluster it's part of. If two or more Honeypots are in the same cluster, their multipliers multiply together rather than add: two x3 Honeypots give x9, according to the developer. Three Honeypots at x3 would give x27. That multiplying effect is why big results in the Rush can be so much larger than base-game wins. Our wild multipliers page explains the general mechanic.
What is the Worker Colony in Honey Rush?
The Worker Colony is a random feature that can activate on a spin with no win. It changes the symbols around the centre cell of the honeycomb to match the centre symbol, creating a cluster that pays and clears, which can then lead to further cascades. Because it only appears on otherwise losing spins, it reduces the number of complete blanks. It doesn't change the overall RTP; its value is already counted in it. See random features for similar mechanics.
How many symbols do you need for a win on Honey Rush?
You need a cluster of at least five matching symbols, each touching at least one other symbol in the cluster. On the hexagonal grid, a cell can touch up to six neighbours, so clusters can grow in more directions than on a square grid. Bigger clusters pay more, and each symbol in a winning cluster also adds to the Rush meter. The paytable shows the values for each symbol and cluster size at your stake. Read our cluster pays slot machines page for more.
Is Honey Rush high volatility?
Yes, Honey Rush is rated high volatility. Much of its return comes from the Rush feature, where multiplying Honeypot wilds can produce very large results, while ordinary spins usually pay small amounts or nothing. That means two sessions with the same budget can end very differently. Volatility doesn't change the long-run average cost, which is set by the RTP. Use a budget you're comfortable losing. Our volatility explainer covers the idea.
Can I play the Honey Rush demo?
Yes, you can use free demo play after age verification at UK-licensed sites that carry the game. Since May 2019 licensed operators have had to verify age before giving anyone access to free-to-play games. The demo runs the same maths as the real game, so it's a good way to see how hex clusters form and how the Rush meter fills. It won't predict results with real money. Our demo slots guide explains how to use a demo sensibly.
When was Honey Rush released?
Play'n GO lists Honey Rush's release date as 31 October 2019. It was the studio's first hexagonal cascading grid slot. Two years later to the day, on 31 October 2021, Great Britain's online slot design rules came in, so UK versions now run without autoplay or turbo and with at least 2.5 seconds per game cycle. The core grid, Rush meter and Honeypot mechanics are unchanged. Read more about the studio on our Play'n GO page.
Does the Rush meter in Honey Rush mean a bonus is coming?
Not in the sense of being owed one. The meter shows how many clustered symbols have been counted, and it fills only through winning clusters that the RNG produces. A partly filled meter doesn't make the next win more likely. The help screen explains how the meter behaves between spins in your version. Treating a visible progress bar as a promise can encourage longer play than planned, so stick to your limits. The gambler's fallacy explainer describes the trap.
