The Gemix slot is a 2014 Play'n GO gem game on a 7x7 grid where clusters of five or more matching symbols pay and then cascade away. It lists a 96.83% top RTP with medium volatility, and instead of free spins it uses a Crystal Charge meter and three themed worlds, each with its own wild.
Cluster pays on a 7 x 7 grid: five or more matching gems touching up, down or sideways.
No free spins: the Crystal Charge meter, Super Charge (3x) and the World Bonus do that job.
Top RTP is 96.83% and volatility is medium, but lower-RTP versions exist.
UK stakes are capped at £5 a spin (25+) and £2 (18–24); no autoplay or bonus buy.

Gemix slot machine: the short version
Gemix came out on 1 December 2014, according to Play'n GO's own game page, and was an early example of the studio's grid games. Rather than reels and lines, it fills a seven-by-seven board with gem symbols and pays for groups that touch. It sits in the same broad family as the later Reactoonz, which took the same grid size in a different direction.
Three things matter more than anything else here: clusters cascade, every win charges a meter, and the board moves through three worlds as you clear patterns. There is no scatter or free spins round, which surprises many people who search for 'Gemix free spins'.

How Gemix clusters and cascades work
Every spin drops 49 symbols onto the board. The game looks for groups of five or more identical gems joined edge to edge; diagonal contact does not count. Winning groups are paid and removed, the gems above fall into the gaps, and fresh gems drop in. If that creates a new group, it pays too, and the cycle repeats until nothing new forms. This is the cascading reels mechanic in grid form.
Why five symbols, not three
On a 49-position board, three matching symbols touching would happen constantly, so the minimum is raised to five. Bigger clusters pay progressively more, and the paytable lists awards by cluster size for each gem. The gem theme follows a long line of gem symbols in slot design, where coloured stones stand in for the old fruit and card ranks.
All winning symbols in a round add to the Crystal Charge meter. When the meter is full and the cascades have stopped, one of four effects fires, changing the board to create new wins. The game's rules describe them as follows.
The four Gemix Crystal Charge effects
Effect
What it does to the board
Chain Lightning
Corner symbols fire arcs; any symbol hit turns into that corner symbol
Light Beam
Rays transform symbols along a chosen symbol's row and column
Crystal Warp
A selected symbol and every matching symbol turn into other symbols
Nova Blast
A selected symbol explodes, clearing its neighbours, then a core of one symbol type forms
Each effect is a form of symbol transformation: it rearranges what is already on the board so that more matching gems sit together. After the effect, cascades resume and any new clusters pay.
Super Charge: the 3x multiplier
If the meter is already full and you keep winning on enough extra symbols before the cascades end, Super Charge triggers and multiplies that round's wins by three. It can happen only once per round. This is the game's main multiplier.
Gemix worlds and their wilds
The board belongs to one of three worlds at a time: the Miner's world, the Princess' world and the Wizard's world. Each world has three patterns marked on the grid. Clearing a pattern activates the next; clearing all three moves you on and pays the World Bonus, which grows with any win in the round.
Wins on marked positions clear parts of the current pattern.
When a pattern is fully cleared, the next one appears.
Clearing the third pattern pays the World Bonus and moves the game to the next world.
The new world brings its own wild behaviour, described below.
How the wilds behave in each Gemix world
World
Wild behaviour
Miner's
Wilds drop from the top onto grid positions, up to 10 per round
Princess'
An edge symbol turns wild and spreads to neighbouring symbols until it reaches a grid edge
Wizard's
Up to 8 sticky wilds appear; they stay put through wins for one round or until Crystal Charge fires
Wilds appear on rounds without a win and are removed when they become part of a winning cluster, apart from the Wizard's sticky wilds. That design gives a losing spin a second chance without making wilds too common.
Gemix RTP and the cost of play
The top RTP is 96.83%, which is higher than many slots. Lower versions exist, and a casino can run one without any visible difference to the game. The difference is easy to put in pounds: at 96.83%, £100 staked costs £3.17 on average; on a version a couple of points lower it would cost around £5.

Gemix volatility: what medium means here
Medium volatility means a balance tends to move more gently than in high-volatility games. Returns are spread more evenly across ordinary spins, and the larger results come from Super Charge and the World Bonus rather than one rare feature. It is still gambling: a medium-volatility game loses money over time at the rate set by the RTP.
For a similar grid with a higher risk profile, Play'n GO's Reactoonz 2 is rated high volatility, as is Push Gaming's Jammin' Jars.
Gemix max win and UK stakes
We do not have a verified maximum win for Gemix, so we do not quote one. The help screen shows any cap. Your stake sets the size of every win, and British limits cap it at £5 a spin from age 25 and £2 between 18 and 24, as the Gambling Commission's stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) explains.

Gemix myths and facts
Myth: a world bonus is close, so keep playing. Progress through a pattern is not a promise of anything; the next spin is random.
Myth: the meter fills faster at higher stakes. It fills with winning symbols, which the RNG sets regardless of stake.
Fact: cascades cost nothing extra. They belong to the paid spin that started them.
Fact: the demo uses the same maths. It is available after age verification on UK sites.
Gemix is a Play'n GO title and is offered at many UK-licensed casinos, though game libraries change. Search the lobby before you join; we do not claim any partner below carries it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Gemix RTP?
The top RTP is 96.83%, meaning about £96.83 is returned for every £100 staked over a very large number of spins. Lower versions exist and casinos choose which to run, so check the figure in the game rules at your casino. A lower setting changes nothing you can see but raises the long-run cost. Our page on RTP variants explains why studios offer several.
Does Gemix have free spins?
No. Gemix has no scatter symbol and no free spins round. Its bonus features are the Crystal Charge meter, which fires one of four board-changing effects when full; Super Charge, which triples a round's wins; and the World Bonus, paid when you clear all three patterns in a world. Our guide to slot bonus features explains how games without free spins build their bonuses.
What is the Gemix max win?
No confirmed top-prize figure for Gemix was available to us, so none is given here. The game's help pages show any cap that applies. The size of any result depends on your stake, which UK rules cap at £5 a spin from age 25, or £2 if you are 18 to 24. See our max win glossary entry for how caps work.
How does Super Charge work in Gemix?
Super Charge is a once-per-round multiplier. If the Crystal Charge meter is already full and you win on enough additional symbols before the cascades stop, all wins in that round are multiplied by three. It cannot trigger twice in the same round. Because it needs a long chain of wins, it is relatively rare. Our multipliers guide shows how multipliers change a slot's maths.
What are the Gemix worlds?
There are three: the Miner's, Princess' and Wizard's worlds. Each has three patterns marked on the grid; clearing all three pays the World Bonus and moves you to the next world. Each world has its own wild: falling wilds for the Miner, spreading wilds for the Princess and up to eight sticky wilds for the Wizard. Our wild symbols page explains these types.
Is there a Gemix demo?
Yes, UK casinos usually offer Gemix in demo mode, but only after your age has been verified, as required since May 2019. The demo plays with the same rules and maths as the real version, so it is useful for learning the worlds and meter. It cannot predict real results. Read free slot machines in the UK for how demo play works here.
Is Gemix low or high volatility?
Gemix is rated medium volatility. Returns are spread more evenly than in high-volatility slots, and the bigger results come from Super Charge and World Bonus payouts. The house edge still applies, so a session is more likely to end down than up, and a long losing run is entirely possible even at medium volatility. Compare it with medium volatility slot machines of other kinds.
How much does Gemix cost to play?
At the 96.83% top RTP, the average long-run cost is £3.17 per £100 staked. That is about 63p for 100 spins at 20p and £3.17 for 100 spins at £1. Sessions can vary well above or below those averages, and a lower-RTP version would cost more. Our bankroll guide shows how to set a budget around these figures.
Who makes Gemix?
Gemix is made by Play'n GO, a privately held Swedish studio based in Växjö whose first gaming product dates from 1997. It is also behind Book of Dead, Reactoonz and the Rich Wilde series. Gemix, released on 1 December 2014, was one of its early grid games. Our Play'n GO provider page lists its best-known slots.
Is Gemix fair?
Licensed British casinos can only run Gemix once its RNG has passed independent testing, and the return they display must be the one actually configured. That is fairness, not a winning edge: the house keeps a percentage over time and most players lose overall. Our article are slot machines rigged explains how games are tested.
